This gentle guided meditation exercise can help to guide you toward a positive future.

Its calmness is perfect for settling the mind as you drift toward sleep.

We can connect to that place within us that wants to work toward a life of meaning and fulfilment.

Lets begin by taking a moment to allow your body to settle.

Let the belly and shoulders relax.

To begin,

Take a full breath in,

And a longer breath out.

Now just breathe naturally,

While allowing yourself to be fully present within the breath.

The questions I offer may prompt your own ideas and responses that can help direct your mind toward a positive future.

This future might be a career,

A relationship,

Or the carefree life that you want to be living.

Some people wish for a life filled with adventure,

Challenge and travel.

Others,

A quiet place to live in a peaceful place.

You may wish to be healthier,

Wealthier,

Happier and enjoy each day.

Everyone is different.

What one person wants,

The other may not,

So just focus on what you wish for.

Throughout this,

Simply allow your body and mind to be relaxed.

When the questions are posed,

Just allow your own answer to enter your mind.

Do not worry about the how and the why of the answer,

Or how such a thing may come to be.

If no particular answer comes to mind,

Just rest within the breathing.

It is worth remembering that sometimes we have dreams,

Life goals and wishes that we have made ourselves discard or forget.

But for this exercise,

Permit yourself complete freedom to imagine.

First,

Ask yourself with kindness and without judgement,

What kind of a future do i feel deeply moved towards?

Just note any thoughts,

Feelings and images that come to mind.

Now take a breath in through your nose for a few seconds and exhale for a little longer.

While you hold this mental image of the future in your mind,

See what feelings arise.

Thinking of this future,

Consider how you might make any move toward it.

It does not have to be a dramatic shift that seems impossible.

One or two small steps are fine.

Now think about how you might react to any opportunities that come your way.

If you face any challenges,

Consider how you might move beyond them.

If you can,

Imagine that you are looking at someone else,

Not yourself and distance the obstacle from yourself.

It is often easier to see how to overcome them if you look at it from a distance.

Think of the skills or capabilities that might be required for this future.

At this point,

It might be helpful to remember any job interviews that you may have had.

The position is always presented in a way that looks intimidating,

Yet once the job is learned,

It becomes an everyday task.

Now imagine yourself somewhere in this positive future and reflect on the things that you did that enabled you to get there.

See yourself doing some of those things.

It could be spending time with family,

Looking out at an incredible view somewhere in the world.

Walking through your beautiful home.

Relaxing at the end of the day,

Knowing that you have no worries and can look forward to a restful sleep.

It can be a more encompassing feeling of general health and calm.

Whatever you wish to imagine,

Just place yourself there and within the feeling it gives you.

See if you can carry this feeling with you throughout the day or into your sleep.

People who are enthusiastic,

Positive and live with an expectation of good things are great attractors because they make a good impression.

People are drawn toward them,

They seem to attract good fortune.

Some people are born like that,

Others have to cultivate this.

Imagining as if you already have something you deeply wish for,

Ignites that spark within you.

See if you can flip the switch in your mind from negative thoughts into positive ones and hold it for as long as possible.

If you become aware that your thoughts are negative,

Think of the future that you would like to be living in and feel that thrill and calm excitement of being within it.

Over time you will begin to do this automatically.

We will end this practice by taking a deep breath in and then a longer exhale.

For now,

Just listen to the gentle waves and see if you can hold that feeling of a wonderful future within you.
