We can not wait until our final moments in life to feel the sweet relief from our fears. If we do, the time will be too late. We can not keep unspoken ideas and perceptions inside. As this reading from "Meditations For People Who Do Too Much" (Oct. 21st) tells us, our thoughts deserve a voice. Even though our fears are real and we should honor them, when we come to face our fears, we may finally be able to use our voices.

Meditations for people who do too much.

Fear.

While we wait in silence for that final luxury of fearlessness,

The weight of that silence will choke us.

From Audre Lorde.

Our silence about the issues that matter most to us thunder in our heads and bodies like a galloping herd of buffalo.

The canyons of our inner beings resound with our unspoken ideas and perceptions.

Our fear confines our souls in the daily holocausts of silent existence.

Our fear is real.

It is palpable.

We can feel it.

We must learn to honor it and move through it.

We cannot deny it and we cannot wait for that final luxury of fearlessness.

To become fixated in our fear is to creep into that choking silence that devours our soul.

No person must speak when they're not ready.

We must respect one another in our silences.

When we face our fears,

We may hear our voices.

My fear is real.

I will honor it.

And I do not need to be controlled by it.
