Why is self-compassion such an important part of healing?
Many people begin their healing journey by focusing on what they want to change.
They notice their anxiety,
Their coping patterns,
Their reactions,
The parts of themselves that they just wish were different.
But what I've learned is that a process of change is not built through self-judgment.
Our nervous system responds to the way we relate to ourselves.
When we meet ourselves with criticism,
Shame or pressure,
The body actually experiences this as a form of stress.
Self-compassion creates a different experience.
It's the practice of meeting ourselves with kindness,
Understanding and patience.
It doesn't mean ignoring challenges or not taking accountability for our actions,
But it means recognising that our response is often developed for a reason.
Self-compassion creates the conditions where change can become possible.
Because we're not fighting ourselves anymore,
We are learning to support ourselves.
Healing begins also with relationship,
And this includes the relationship we have with ourselves.
