This is a contemplative poem about what it means to stand at the place of new beginnings in our lives. It is a prayer that as we meet these new places, we know that we are supported even if we are scared about moving into the thresholds of new places. The listener is invited to join me on this journey to experience what it is like to be held in this place and reflect on how it feels.

Today,

We reflect on the word threshold.

There are several meanings of this particular word.

One is that it can be a strip of wood or metal or stone that forms at the bottom of a doorway that separates the entrance from the exit.

The second meaning of threshold is that it can be the very beginning of something new,

Standing at the threshold before we step across.

Threshold can also refer to the intensity that must be exceeded for a certain reaction to occur.

So during this prayerful poem,

I invite you to reflect on the thresholds in your life.

As we meet these new places,

How do we greet them and step into the new?

I invite you into this reflection with me.

Take a deep breath in,

Inhaling all the way up and exhaling,

Allowing the breath to move through your body.

Threshold.

On the threshold,

At the doorway of something new,

We need our threshold for what once was acceptable but no longer applies in this new world.

At the threshold waiting to take flight,

To lift off and alight into the blue sky,

The pain of the old way bubbles up to the surface until our own threshold for pain is exceeded.

No more tolerance for hate,

Greed,

Discrimination,

Violence or blame.

Now we stand at the threshold pushed into something new and wonderful despite the pain we feel inside.

The threshold.

A doorway.

A step over and into a brand new way of being.

May we always be blessed and guided with each threshold that we cross.

May we be strong enough to hold space for the new ways of living in this world.

May each threshold we cross be accompanied by help from those around us,

Both friend and stranger.

May we,

As we cross these thresholds,

Be open to co-creating a loving place for all to live.

Thank you for all our blessings even during times of pain.

May we be blessed.

I invite you to take a deep breath in,

Inhaling from the bottom of your feet,

Bringing the air up through your body to the top of your head and exhaling gently.

I thank you for joining me today in this prayerful poem.

And may you be blessed.
