Hello,
This is Shannon Algeo.
Welcome back to Insight Timer.
And I wanna share this practice with you.
Of slowing down and delaying gratification.
We want to delay this instant gratification culture that we're all participating in.
I was just talking to a friend yesterday.
Who said to me this.
That the space between desire wanting something,
And satisfaction.
Getting it.
Has imploded.
Because now we have these devices in the palms of our hands,
These computers that we carry with us,
And we can just tap glass and get what we want.
And so we're losing our ability to be with the unknown,
With friction,
With the pregnant pause,
And with that fear.
Emptiness of space that we actually need.
So let's go inside right now.
And if it's comfortable for you,
Close your eyes.
If you're holding your phone,
Maybe place it away from you.
On the floor,
On the table.
And In this short practice,
We are going to place our palms.
Face down onto our thighs or our knees as we Settle.
And slow.
Think of settling.
Slowing.
And softening the body.
Settling the nervous system.
Slowing the speed of the mind.
And softening the body,
Maybe the space around the heart,
The lungs that surround the heart.
The ribs.
That surround the lungs.
And through this settling,
This slowing,
And this softening.
We can return to a rhythm.
Of steadiness.
So just notice how your body.
Breathe during this time.
And if the mind races,
Which the mind will think the thoughts will be.
Passing through the mind.
Notice if you can return to that slowing.
Intention.
That actually.
.
.
Being with friction or being with patience.
Being with emptiness is a real practice.
For human beings in this digital age.
Can you slow your breath down as an embodied?
Invitation to slow down.
Everything else down,
The thought patterns.
Maybe even the heart rate.
The need to change anything at all,
Internal or external.
And so for about one more minute here will be with.
The slowing down of the breath.
And allowing the mind to follow.
Slow inhales.
And the long,
Slow exhales.
And then to close,
We'll place one hand onto the heart and one hand onto the belly and just offer yourself.
The medicine of steadiness.
You can even say to yourself in your mind,
I am steady.
It is safe to be here.
Slow I am steady.
It is safe.
To be slow,
To go slow.
And to move at a human pace.
A rhythm.
That honors the pace and the wisdom of the soul.
Thank you for joining in this practice with me.
Again,
My name is Shannon Algeo,
And I'll see you for our next practice together here on Insight Timer.
Thank you so much.
