Hello my fellow hearkeners,
Welcome to the Bible Meditations for Mental Health series.
Today's meditation is on depression.
To get into the spirit of meditation,
I invite you to close your eyes and notice with this simple act of closing your eyes,
Your mind organically gets quieter.
As your mind quiets,
I invite you to relax your body in a position you can be comfortable in for a few minutes.
In other words,
Be still.
Let's enter this space together with this spirit of stillness,
An attitude of gratitude and non-judgment,
And a heart and mindset of peace and loving-kindness.
Depression can feel like a heavy fog that dims the world and drains the spirits.
It can make joy feel distant and hope feel inaccessible.
It can make the simplest of things difficult to do.
It often whispers that change is impossible.
But God speaks a different word.
Let's take a moment to contemplate some scripture passages that can help with depression.
Adonai is close to the brokenhearted.
And saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34 verse 18 Adonai will give them beauty instead of ashes.
Oil of joy instead of mourning,
And a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
Isaiah 61 verse 3 Those who hope in Adonai will renew their spirit.
They will soar on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40,
Verse 31.
When depression presses heavily upon us,
God draws even nearer.
God promises beauty where ashes once were,
Joy where there was once mourning.
And strength where weariness has lived for too long.
Depression says you cannot rise.
But God says.
Your strength.
Will be renewed.
Your strength.
Will be renewed.
Let's spend just a moment in prayer for in times of depression.
I don't know,
When the weight feels too heavy.
Lift my spirit.
Renew my strength.
Exchange my ashes for beauty,
My mourning for joy.
Hold me close to your heart.
Thank you for sharing this space with me,
My fellow hearkeners.
I look forward to guiding you again soon.
And until then.
.
.
May grace and peace Light and Love.
Be with you.
