An Insomnia Practice: Releasing The Trying To Sleep

For nights when sleep feels far away and trying harder only seems to push it further out of reach, this meditation shifts the goal away from sleep itself and toward simple release. Using slow, heavy body relaxation and a long, unhurried exhale, this practice helps loosen the effort of trying to sleep, the vigilance and frustration that often keep it at bay in the first place. Rest, on its own, without sleep attached to it, still counts as something valuable happening in the body. This session is designed to trail into stillness and silence rather than close with a wake up cue, so it can carry you gently toward sleep whenever it is ready to come. A meditation for chronic insomnia, racing nighttime thoughts, and the exhausting cycle of trying too hard to sleep. This is best used lying down in bed, ideally as one of the last things you do before attempting to sleep.
