Hello,
And welcome to this yoga nidra practice for deep relaxation and inner peace.
This meditation is designed to be completely effortless.
It's really a journey of letting go,
Releasing tension and stress,
And allowing your mind and your entire nervous system to be calmed and soothed so that even just for a moment you may return to your true nature,
One that is of a deep,
Ever-present peace.
Take all the time you need to settle into a comfortable position.
You might like to lay down on your back,
Using cushions and a blanket to support your body and keep you warm and cozy.
Notice if there's anything you can do to get even a little bit more comfortable.
Knowing that when the body is able to relax,
The mind quickly follows suit and rest comes easier.
Gently adjust your position as needed,
Allowing the body to find a place of ease and natural stillness.
Let the gentle force of gravity draw your entire body down towards the earth.
Relax the hinges of your jaw.
Let your tongue be heavy in your mouth.
Soften the muscles and tissues in your forehead,
Temples,
And eyes.
Take a deep breath in through the nose and out through the mouth.
Now take two sips of air in through the nose.
Take a deep breath in through the nose and out through the mouth.
Now take two sips of air in through the nose and out through the mouth.
Now take two sips of air in through the nose and out through the mouth.
Now take two sips of air in through the nose and out through the mouth.
As your breath returns to its natural rhythm,
You might sense that your energy is starting to settle down,
Like little particles of dust that have been kicked up and are now settling down to the ground.
Feel the density and support of the earth beneath you.
You might imagine that Mother Earth is holding you in her arms as you start to release and unwind.
And as you gently relax into the comfort of Mother Earth's embrace,
Imagine you could let go of anything you don't want to carry.
Any stress or heavy emotions,
Anything you've been worrying about or holding on to,
Anything that feels like it's draining your energy.
Could you imagine giving it all over to Mother Earth to hold,
So that you don't have to?
Letting go of anything that doesn't serve you,
And anything that's just not yours to carry.
Dropping all of that extra weight,
So that you might start to feel a little bit lighter,
A little more open and free,
More available to the present moment.
As you relax deeper and deeper,
Could you feel your attention shifting away from the world of doing and thinking,
To the world of simply being,
Feeling,
And sensing.
Sensing the air brushing across your skin,
Noticing the warmth or coolness,
Sensing your ears listening,
Soaking in each sound vibration,
Sensing your chest rising and falling with each breath,
Sensing your heart,
The warm gentle pulsation of your heart,
With your awareness resting at your heart,
Might you welcome in your sankalpa,
A heartfelt prayer,
Inwardly stating your own sankalpa,
Or perhaps using the phrase,
I am safe,
Supported,
And held.
Now,
Could you softly rotate your awareness through your body,
As each region is named,
Starting inside of the mouth,
Noticing sensations inside of the mouth,
Rotating awareness to the mouth,
Inside of the right cheek,
Inside of the left cheek,
Lower lip,
Upper lip,
Right nostril,
Left nostril,
The sensation of breath inside of the nose,
Noticing the sensation of breath in the ear,
Earlobe,
Deep inside of the right ear,
Left ear,
Folds of the ear,
Earlobe,
Deep inside of the left ear,
Both ears,
Left and right,
Listening,
The right eye,
Eyebrow,
Temple,
Cheekbone,
Left eye,
Eyebrow,
Between the brows,
Top of the head,
Inside of the throat,
Base of the throat,
The heart center,
In the middle of the chest,
Right side of the chest,
Right shoulder,
Wrist,
Palm,
Back of the hand,
All five fingers,
Starting with the thumb,
First finger,
Second finger,
Third finger,
Little finger,
Wrist,
Shoulder,
Middle of the chest,
Left side of the chest,
Left shoulder,
Wrist,
Palm,
Back of the hand,
All five fingers,
Starting with the thumb,
First finger,
Second finger,
Third finger,
Little finger,
Wrist,
Elbow,
Shoulder,
Middle of the chest,
The ribs,
Shoulder blades,
Back of the heart center,
The whole back,
Upper,
Middle,
And lower,
Navel,
Pubic bone,
Right hip,
Ankle,
Heel,
Sole of the foot,
Top of the foot,
All five toes,
Starting with the big toe,
Second toe,
Little toe,
The whole right leg,
Back to the pubic bone,
Over to the left hip,
Ankle,
Heel,
Sole of the foot,
Top of the foot,
All five toes,
Starting with the big toe,
Second toe,
Third toe,
Little toe,
Both legs together,
Left and right,
And the upper body,
The torso,
Arms and hands,
Neck and head,
Resting so deeply,
Breathing in effortlessly,
Notice how the breath gently moves through the body,
With each inhale,
A subtle expansion,
Each exhale,
A soft release,
Natural,
Uncontrolled breath,
Nourishing the entire body,
Breath flowing in,
Like soothing waves,
Relaxing and sensing the easy rhythm of the breath flowing through the whole body,
Could you imagine that every cell in your body is breathing in and out,
And that with every breath,
Your cells are being nourished with a sense of calm and tranquility,
Just imagining each one of your trillions of cells filling up with breath and with a calming,
Comforting,
Serene energy,
Soothing,
Peaceful breath and energy,
Enriching every cell in your body,
Now,
Could you allow this sense of peace and tranquility to soak even deeper into your being,
By beginning to sense or imagine a place within your mind and heart,
An inner sanctuary,
A space where you feel completely safe,
Supported and at ease,
Allow your imagination to show you a peaceful sanctuary where you can rest and be free,
Simply allow this place to reveal itself to you in whatever way it comes,
It may be a place in nature,
Perhaps open and spacious,
Or somewhere inside that's quiet,
Warm and comforting,
A beautiful supportive space just for you,
A space where you can relax and completely let go,
As your inner sanctuary begins to take shape,
Notice how your body responds,
Notice how your body might settle even more deeply,
As you're held,
Grounded,
And completely safe,
Without any effort at all,
Your awareness may begin to softly open through your senses,
Noticing what you can see here in this safe haven,
Noticing what you can feel and touch,
Sensing what you can hear,
Sounds near or far,
Or even the quiet itself,
Perhaps becoming aware of any subtle fragrances in the air,
Even a sense of taste in the mouth,
All of your senses are relaxed and open,
Receptive to each sensation,
Each sensation bringing you into an even deeper state of calm,
Where you may begin to notice a felt sense of well-being,
A quiet,
Steady sense of peace,
A deep,
Grounded inner peace,
As you rest here in your inner sanctuary,
You might allow the details of the space to slowly begin to soften,
Letting the image refade in its own time,
While the feelings remain,
Peace,
Ease,
And an unshakable sense of well-being,
Allowing your awareness to soften and open now,
As if expanding outward in every direction,
Feel yourself relaxing and opening to the infinite field of awareness itself,
The sanctuary of pure presence,
Gently resting here,
Resting back into an infinite ocean of awareness,
Boundless presence,
Here in this space of quiet awareness,
You might return to your sankalpa,
Your heartfelt prayer,
Simply allowing the words or the feeling behind the words to gently arise,
I am safe,
Supported,
And held,
Begin to notice the natural rhythm of your breath,
Moving in and out,
The subtle weight of your body resting against the earth,
Feeling the points of contact beneath you,
Where your body is supported,
Notice the space around your body,
Remaining connected to that sense of ease and peace,
Even as you start to return to a more wakeful state,
And when you feel ready,
Begin to invite a little bit of movement back into the body,
Maybe wiggling the fingers,
The toes,
Gently rotating the wrists,
The ankles,
Slowly reawakening the body in your own time,
If you're laying on your back,
You might like to gently roll over onto your side,
Taking a moment here to notice how you feel,
And perhaps recognizing that the sense of peace you connected with isn't something you created,
But something that is already here within you,
And something you can return to again and again.
As Richard Miller shares,
Yoganidra reveals that the inner fabric of each of us is deep equanimity or peace that is stable and steady,
And when realized,
Is recognized to be ever-present,
Even in the midst of life's tumultuousness.
Thank you for practicing with me today,
From my heart to yours.
Namaste.
