Today I want to share with you the importance of being who we really are.
For many of us,
It can be hard to show exactly our true self because we are very much involved in several social structures all the time and everywhere since we are born in this planet.
These structures carry so many expectations from all of us that sometimes we see no other choice than to absorb them and fit into their shapes and into their rules.
This means that we behave in certain ways that most of the times are not even close to who we really are.
We do this not because we want to harm ourselves or others but because we want to feel that we belong to something,
That we are part of this world like anybody else.
So most of us spend our entire lives as if we were in a clothing store,
Forcing all the clothes to fit into our body's shape.
This only makes us dislike and depreciate ourselves even more because when we look in the mirror and we see ourselves wearing those clothes,
We clearly see and feel that something is quite wrong.
And usually we tend to blame our body's shape in favor of the clothes,
Right?
It's the same in this case.
We tend to blame ourselves in favor of others or others' opinions and expectations or social rules in general.
This happened to me quite strongly.
I lost count of the times that I smiled and was polite and tolerated or even laughed for some unknown reason,
Trying to fit here and there.
Not that I wasn't spontaneous or that I wasn't smiley by nature,
I was,
But the pressure for being what others expected from me was so heavy that most of the times I felt as if I had no other choice than hiding myself from the world.
I tried to fit,
But I could never feel that I belonged anywhere,
Although sometimes it seemed like I did.
I was hidden,
But deep inside I was hoping that someone would see me.
But how could someone see me if I was hidden?
I had to come to the conclusion that nobody would come to save me from my own state of refusal to take over and show who I was after all.
It can be hard to stand up for ourselves when nobody seems to understand our true essence,
But it is much,
Much harder when we hide our light and allow others to control our lives.
The world needs us as we are,
No rules,
No shapes,
No obligations.
And yes,
We create structures as a form of organization and they can be healthy as long as we use them for our benefit instead of being used by them to our detriment.
So today I am here to remind us that we matter and there is a reason,
A higher purpose for us to be here on Earth.
Each of us has a special role in this big play that we call life and it is happening right now.
There is no break and there is no way back.
So let's just be ourselves now and show ourselves to the world because then we can make the difference.
It is by respecting who we are that we attract exactly what we need to perform at our best and to be the main character of our lives.
