Hello,
My name is Sandra Menzies and I'd like for you to take a walk with me today.
I am here in my neighborhood and just going to walk around and see what I see and I hope you can join me.
So before we start,
I'd like for us to set our intention.
Take a breath.
Feel your feet on the floor.
Notice how you're feeling,
Your energy.
Your awareness of self.
Now let's begin to walk.
Noticing What do you feel today?
What do you want out of this time together?
I'm here with you.
Going to be making some reflections as we walk.
And I'm just so grateful that you're here with me today.
So let's begin.
Listen.
This walk is about.
Trying something new.
Noticing what's around.
Doesn't have to be a far walk.
Just saw a blue bird.
Here's a butterfly.
Notice how hot it is out today.
What's going on with you?
You might feel a little strange talking back.
To someone who may not,
You know.
You can type it.
You can send me a message.
But this is the.
.
.
Communication.
Within each of us,
Sometimes we have messages in our heart,
In our soul,
And we don't know how to share those with anyone else.
And so when we can walk.
And feel and be aware.
Of those messages,
Of the words we're using for ourselves.
What's showing up?
We can be in such a different place.
What are you noticing around you right now?
What are you noticing within you?
I'm in a community with a lot of houses.
It's midday,
So there's not a lot of cars.
Here comes one now.
But I'm hearing the birds.
I'm seeing some.
There's trees around.
But as I continue to think.
Of you walking here with me.
Beside me.
I realize that sometimes I don't motivate myself to get out and move and to do.
To take care of me unless I have someone there.
Who's going to be with me.
That's going to join me at the gym or at a class.
And so not doing because I don't have that other person.
Who can be there?
I'm also struggling a little bit right now because a friend of mine recently passed away and she was the person I do a lot of this stuff with.
I know that seems a little heavy.
But it also makes me realize I can't start,
Not start,
Because how long do we have here on this earth?
And I want to get to know you a little bit better.
Developing more friendships,
Connections.
What do you want?
Okay,
On another note,
I'm passing a house that's yard is covered with signs about a recent upcoming graduation.
So celebrating those milestones of our life.
Do you have a milestone in your life that's coming up soon?
I'll be 60 in a few years.
In a few months,
It'll be my husband and my 30th anniversary.
But those are kind of external.
The internal ones.
This time of acknowledging who I am.
I wish it were.
Who do I want to be?
Those are the questions that I.
.
.
Spend time every day.
Contemplating journaling.
And so today I decided.
.
.
Instead of journaling and thinking about.
That I would actually just come out and walk and talk with you.
So I'd like to talk to you.
What are those things that are on your heart?
What motivated you to come?
And walk with me today.
Yes,
I'm going up a big hill.
So a little winded.
As they say,
Haven't been walking much on my own.
What's going on with the terrain that you're traversing.
As you think about the next day,
Week,
Month,
Year.
What do you want out of this time?
Heard yesterday someone was saying every month my wife and I or companion establish a Word of being.
Of how do I want to show up.
This next month.
Or weak.
Or quarter.
So I've been thinking about that.
I was journaling about it this morning.
I'm like,
I want some silence.
I want some action.
Not just thinking about.
But actually turning some of those actions.
Those things I'd like to share.
Not just keeping them in my heart.
My soul.
But also.
.
.
Butting others.
Get to know me.
And I get to know them.
It is really in the shade.
It is absolutely gorgeous day.
In the sun,
It's a little on the warm side.
So getting back to this way of being.
I think.
.
.
Today is.
.
.
May the 20th.
And for the next bit,
At least.
Week.
Maybe I'll switch it in June or maybe I'll keep it for the month.
But I want action.
To be my word.
Of being,
My way of being.
That feels authentic to me.
Instead of just thinking about doing stuff.
I actually want to get out and do it.
What is your action word for this month?
Or week or day.
How do you want your way of being to be?
This was a short walk.
I took the short block.
For my first foray into Taking a walk.
With me.
Don't know if I will publish this I hope I will.
And I hope you actually listen.
Walk with me.
And share some of your reflections from this time together.
On the home stretch.
I can almost see where my house is located.
Going downhill now.
Listening to the rustling of the trees.
There's hardly a cloud in the sky.
We're supposed to get thunderstorms later today.
The trees are green.
We did have some late frost,
So some of our trees at the top or the outer edges don't have the leaves that they normally do,
And they're a little bit brown.
Some might say,
Oh,
It's global warming.
Some might say,
No,
It's not global warming.
I'm just saying,
This is what I'm noticing.
Without judgment.
What are you again?
Noticing around you.
Probably a little different.
Are you going up a hill now?
Or down a hill?
Are you maintaining your breath?
Do you still have in your mind that intention you set at the beginning of our walk together?
Is that intention still?
The correct one for you as we begin.
To bring our walk together to a close.
So I'm back home now.
I want to thank you for joining me on this walk.
For listening.
For sharing.
For being there as my companion as I get myself out to do.
So thank you.
This is Sandy Menzies,
Signing off.
