Why you feel other people's energy so strongly.
Welcome.
Let me give a short description of this talk.
Some people radically affect the atmosphere in a room.
Some spaces feel immediately safe.
Others never let you settle.
This talk explains the reason you sense other people's or animals' or places' energy so strongly.
And it shows that this sensitivity is a vital,
Built-in capacity.
Not a flaw.
Let's start.
You know the moment.
You walk into a room and before anyone has said a word to you,
Something in you has already shifted.
Maybe a friend opens her front door and you feel,
Instantly,
Whether this is a home where you can breathe.
Or you stand near a horse in a quiet field and your shoulders drop two inches without you deciding to drop them.
Sometimes the opposite happens.
You sit across from someone whose words are perfectly pleasant,
And still,
Your stomach tightens,
Your jaw sets,
And some part of you quickly is looking for the door.
All these moments share something in common.
None of that is in your main imagination.
What you are sensing in these moments has a name.
Spiritual traditions have called it vibrations for thousands of years.
And today scientists who study the body's electrical activity,
The nervous system,
And the way emotions move between living beings,
Are mapping the same territory,
Just with different tools.
It's a different language,
Same discovery,
Arrived at from two completely different directions.
And this shows you are not separated from what's around you.
You are in constant two-way contact with it.
So here is the foundation.
Every living thing carries its own state,
Its own emotional weather,
Its own quality of being.
Call it energy,
Vibration,
Or.
.
.
That every word settles within yourself.
Crucially,
Every living thing you've ever met has evolved over millions of years to read these states in others,
Quickly and almost without your permission.
This means that before you've had a single conscious thought about a person,
A room,
Or a situation,
Your body has already cast its vote on whether it feels safe here.
That's not superstition.
It's biology at its work,
Doing exactly what it is designed to do.
Let's begin with people.
Scientists call this process emotional contingency,
The automatic,
Involuntary way you catch someone else's emotional states.
Mirror neurons in your brain fire,
Not only when you feel something,
But also when you watch someone else feel it.
And that's why,
Within seconds of sitting near someone who's anxious,
Your own breathing shortens,
Your shoulders climb,
And your heart rate quickly follows theirs.
This happens before language,
Before you've decided anything about the person at all.
It's all connected.
Yet,
Beneath this,
Something even more physical is happening.
Your heart is not just a pump,
It's the strongest electrical generator in your body,
Producing an electromagnetic field larger than your brain's.
Importantly,
This field extends several feet beyond your body into the surrounding space.
Researchers have shown that when someone is calm and emotionally coherent,
Their heart signal becomes more ordained.
And those around them sense it more easily.
This process may be part of the very real physics behind what you've always called someone's energy.
Not a metaphor,
But a field,
And you stand into it every day.
This interplay explains why a calm person can walk into a tense room and the whole room seems to exhale.
Conversely,
It is why a dysregulated person can create unease even without raising their voice or speaking unkindly.
The energy shifts before words are spoken.
Animals interact with these signals even more precisely than humans.
Horses,
For example,
Are finely tuned to detect the smallest shift in a human state,
Not only for your face or voice,
But also from your sense,
Muscle tension and breath.
Researchers have measured changes in a horse heart rate depending on whether a nearby person is calm or afraid.
A horse-orphaned mirrors what it senses,
Growing restlessly if you are anxious,
Or relaxing as you let go of the tension.
This is part of why spending time with a horse or any trusted animal feels like looking into the mirror.
They're not guessing,
They are reading you with a precision most of us have lost.
Nature has its own quieter effect.
Time spent near water,
Beneath open sky or among trees.
Has been shown to lower stress hormones and calm the nervous system.
By contrast,
SITI often triggers brain regions to tie to threats and overstimulation.
This isn't about nature being morally superior to the built world,
But about the fact that your nervous system evolved within the natural one.
And some part of you still recognizes the vibration as home.
Homes and buildings also carry their own felt equality quality.
Something you've trusted your entire life,
Even without scientific confirmation.
Elements like light and color,
Layout and even spaces,
History,
All shapes the mood in measurable ways.
People who feel a bond with the place report lower stress and greater resilience,
While a heavy neglected space can drain you.
And a depleted person.
So in turn,
Let's dare.
Own home fade even further.
The relationship goes both ways.
That's why some houses feel like an exhale and others feel like holding your breath the entire time you're inside them.
And then there are situations,
The meeting that feels charged before anyone raised their voice,
The conversation that feels safe before a single word of trust has been exchanged.
Your nervous system has a built-in radar for this,
A constant,
Unconscious scan of tune,
Posture,
Rhythm,
Even background sound,
Deciding in a fraction of a second,
Whether you are safe here or not.
This is why you can walk into a room and know with total certainty and zero evidence that something is off.
Your body isn't waiting for proof.
It already has its own.
So from here,
What I want you to take away from all this.
Is if you've been told you're too sensitive or that you read too much into people or places consider this your sensitivity is not a flaw it's evidence of your body working it's designed And you are built to read energy,
People,
Animals,
Land,
Spaces,
And the mood in a room.
And that's the central of the whole of your well-being.
So take a breath here and let your shoulders drop wherever they have crept up to.
This discomfort you feel around mismatch energy isn't weakness,
It's information.
It's your system telling you clearly that what's in front of you doesn't match what's true in you right now.
And once you learn to trust that signal instead of arguing with it,
Something in you changes.
You stop forcing yourself to stay in the room that costs you everything every minute you're in them.
You start trusting the friend whose presence makes your shoulders drop and questions the one who leave you depleted,
No matter how kind their words were.
You start treating your home,
Your land,
Your own four walls as something worth tending,
Not just decorating.
You were never meant to filter all this out.
You were meant to notice,
Trust and consciously choose what matches your energy and what to let go of without guilt.
This empowers you to care for your well-being.
So this week,
Notice it.
Notice the room that makes you exhale and the one that makes you brace.
Notice the person whose voice settles your whole body.
And the one who,
For reasons you couldn't explain,
Made your jaw tighten before they set a single unkind world.
Trust your body,
It already knows.
It was never wrong about this.
Not once.
