Louise the Snow Leopard by R.
M.
Bodie Louise is a snow leopard that lives high up in the freezing cold,
Snow-filled mountain peaks in a country called Nepal.
Like all other snow leopards,
Louise is elusive,
Rarely ever being seen at all.
Louise lives a life isolated and alone.
She prefers the peace and quiet living on her own.
Louise's fur is like a cloak that keeps her shielded from sight.
She blends in with her environment,
Staying hidden both day and night.
That's why snow leopards are called the ghosts of the mountain or the ghost cat.
We might not see much of these covert cats,
But they most certainly know exactly where we are at.
Louise has her own unique spots called rosettes.
Each snow leopard has their own special patterned sets.
Even though Louise lives in such a frosty and frigid place,
She is comfortably warm with soft and thick fur from her feet all the way to her face.
Louise has a long tail that helps her stay balanced when she runs and plays.
Her tail can act like a scarf,
Keeping Louise cozy throughout the cool winter days.
Louise has paws that are like snowshoes,
Helping her navigate through the soft white snow.
Her powerful paws help Louise climb rocky cliffs,
No matter how high she wants to go.
Louise can leap distances that are ridiculously far.
She is so quick,
She can run as fast as a car.
Sometimes Louise likes to lounge on the branches of a big sturdy tree.
When she wants to relax,
There's no place else she'd rather be.
As the sun's light and warmth begins to fade away,
Louise looks for a cave or a crevice on the rocky cliff to stay.
Louise uses her tail like a blanket to stay warm during the ice-cold night.
Her tail also covers her eyes from the shining stars and bright moonlight.
This is where Louise will come get some sleep until the sun comes back around.
Relaxed and rested,
Louise is comfortable on the solid and dry ground.
Thank you for listening to Louise the Snow Leopard's story.
May you have a wonder-filled day and a most restful night.
Sweet dreams and sleep tight.
