Five Acred Wood Fables,

The Wandering Cow by R.

M.

Bode Not so long ago,

On a quiet country potato farm in Idaho,

Lived a rather rambunctious and mischievous cow,

Who would repeatedly escape from his fence without the farmer knowing how.

The cow freely left the farm's gates to ramble and roam.

Off on a fateful adventure,

This wandering cow would venture far from his farm home.

The cow followed that unmistakable scent filling his nose.

He was on the trail to find where that wild blueberry patch grows.

The cow walked for many miles along his blueberry quest.

Before he continued any further,

Though,

He thought it was time for a quick rest.

A quick drink by the river and a nap under the tree,

The cow was far from the farm now.

He felt excited for all the new things he might see.

As the cow took to the ground beneath a wispy willow tree to unwind and relax in the shade,

Upon the willow tree branches landed a squawking crow brigade.

The crows were excited with exuberant joy and sweet relief,

Speaking of strawberry,

Blueberry,

And blackberry patches growing in abundant bounty beyond belief.

They said that they were only about another day's flight from the forever flowing berry fields of the five-acred wood.

They told the cow he should follow them on their journey and the cow reckoned he should.

The cow calculated his walking distance compared to the crow's one day of flight.

He figured it would take him twice as long,

So he set on foot before the day's first light.

As the sun's warm shining light arose,

Over the cow's head flew his new friends the crows.

They said they were almost halfway to their majestic destination,

A wonderful and fruitful land beyond one's wildest expectation.

The cow was curious about this mysterious place.

He continued to walk with real pep and purpose to his pace.

Could this five-acred wood be his new home,

Finally a place where the cow felt free from the need to roam?

The cow followed the path led by the majestic lake.

He knew this journey was worth the effort no matter how long it would take.

Just as the sun was making way for the moon in the night sky,

The crows dropped a medley of berries off for the cow to try.

The cow felt rejuvenated from this vitamin-fuel-induced,

Much-welcomed and needed antioxidant-packed energetic boost.

The cow was on his final stretch to the top of the ridge's peak.

At last,

The cow was hoping to find the home he ventured to seek.

The cow was greeted by his crow friends,

A turtle,

Tortoise,

Terrapin,

Mr.

And Mrs.

Owl,

The owlets,

And Javi the jaguar too.

At ease,

Dear cow,

I am Mrs.

Owl,

And we of the five-acred wood come to welcome you.

Mrs.

Owl continued,

This place you enter calls your wandering spirit to no longer roam.

Please embrace the unrestricted,

Liberating natural way of your sacred new home.

The cow was humbled and overwhelmingly put at ease.

He was in awe of the meadow,

Full of berry brambles and the shade provided by the apple and peach trees.

Mrs.

Owl invited the cow for a five-acred wood family feast,

A friendly festive gathering for all benevolent animal-bird,

Man,

And beast.

The cow knew that he had finally found the place he was searching for.

After several months munching on the grasses and berries of the five-acred wood's luscious landscape,

The cow knew he was finally free from confinement and no longer had the urge to escape.

Thank you for listening to the five-acred wood fable,

The Wandering Cow.

Much love,

Bodhi.
