Good morning.
Maybe you're still lying in bed,
Or perhaps you've already found a comfortable seat for this meditation.
Wherever you are,
Find that gentle balance between alertness and ease.
A body that is holding itself while also allowing itself to be held.
A mind that is awake but not rushing ahead.
Take a slow,
Intentional breath in.
And a long,
Easy breath out.
And allow your breath to settle into a rhythm that feels slow and natural and easy.
We never really know what today will bring.
It may surprise us,
Delight us,
Challenge us,
Or it may be wonderfully ordinary.
And before any of that unfolds,
Let us choose who is going to meet the day.
We often imagine a good day is one where nothing difficult happens.
But perhaps a good day is simply one where we keep returning to the person we want to be.
So before your mind moves to everything waiting for you just ask yourself.
How would you like to meet today?
With all its knowns and unknowns.
All of the actions and interactions ahead of you.
Maybe today calls for the part of you that slows down.
Or the part of you that takes brave action,
Maybe it needs the part of you that laughs a little more easily or the one that listens more deeply.
Whatever it may be.
Allow an intention for today to gently emerge within you.
You might connect to a single word.
Perhaps a feeling.
It might even arrive as an image.
Whatever comes,
Trust it and allow it to settle gently within you.
And then allow yourself a moment to wonder.
How does a person with this intention move throughout their day?
How do they meet the ordinary moments,
The challenging moments,
The unexpected moments?
Let's take a mental journey throughout the day ahead to find out.
A rehearsal of sorts.
I'd like you to imagine yourself from the moment this meditation ends,
Moving through the rest of your day.
Whatever the day may hold for you,
The people,
The places,
The tasks,
The transit.
Simply allow your day to unfold naturally in your mind.
Notice not just what you're doing.
But how you're doing it.
Pay particular attention to how it feels.
When your intention begins to shape the way you move through your day.
To really imagine yourself meeting.
All the moments that lie ahead of you from this place.
And then gently let that picture fade and return to your body exactly as it is in this moment.
Because this is where that day begins,
Not with any of those actions or interactions,
But right here,
With this moment,
With this breath.
And take one slower breath in.
And a gentle breath out.
May today be a good day.
Not because everything goes to plan,
But because again and again you will return to the person you want to be.
One breath.
One choice,
One ordinary moment at a time.
