Welcome.
This is not going to be a motivational speech.
We are not going to think our way into today.
We are simply going to give your brain a few clear signals that it's time to begin.
We'll start in a comfortable seated position,
So if you're still laying down,
Come and sit on the edge of your bed.
If your feet reach the floor,
Great.
If they don't,
That's completely fine too.
Now with your eyes open,
Take a moment to really look around the room and notice whatever light is already around you.
And then lift your gaze and allow it to land somewhere in front of you a little above eye level.
Lengthening your spine,
Relaxing your shoulders,
Broadening across your chest.
These simple cues,
Light,
Gaze,
Posture,
Help tell our brain it's time to wake up and now we'll add an energizing breathing pattern to reinforce those signals.
Let's begin with a deep breath in through your nose,
Filling up your belly first.
And then continue that inhale up into your chest.
And then exhale from your mouth.
Really nice.
Now let's speed it up a little.
Breathe into your belly.
Keep breathing into your chest.
And exhale.
Again,
Through your nose,
Breathe in.
Keep breathing in and from your mouth empty.
You're doing great.
Let's keep this rhythm.
Inhale.
Keep inhaling.
Exhale.
Two more into the belly.
Into the chest.
Out of the mouth.
Final round.
Breathe in.
Keep breathing in.
And then give it all back.
And with that final exhale you can release the technique and simply take a deep breath in as you reach your arms overhead,
Stretching through your fingertips,
Lengthening through your spine,
Taking up a little more space.
And then gently release your body and your breath.
And as your breathing naturally settles into a comfortable rhythm I'd like you to come to stand.
Feet comfortably apart.
Feeling both the way your body is grounding down into the earth beneath you.
And the way the earth is lifting your body from the soles of your feet all the way through the crown of your head.
You've already given your brain and your body the gift of momentum this morning.
And so as our practice comes to a close,
I don't want you to think about your entire day or your whole to-do list.
I'd simply like you to identify your very next steps.
Maybe it's making your bed,
Pouring a glass of water,
Brushing your teeth,
Opening your laptop,
Whatever it is.
Let that be enough,
Knowing that action often precedes motivation.
Shake your arms and hands out for a moment.
And then settle them by your sides and roll your shoulders up and back.
It is time.
Go now and do just the next thing.
