Third Step Prayer

Join me for a Third Step prayer based on the traditions of Twelve Step Spirituality. This prayer is for anyone of any faith tradition (or none) who wants to make a decision to let go of living life based on their finite ego, addictions, or control.

By your power, I stand at a crossroads on my journey, Either to continue in my old ways or to turn to you. By your grace, I make the decision to choose a new way today. I acknowledge that my past efforts, Driven by ignorance and self-will, Have led me to places of separation, Addiction, Darkness, And despair. I now humbly turn my life and my will over to your loving care. Help me to embrace the serenity of letting go, The understanding that I do not journey alone, And the acceptance that my strength comes from reliance upon my union with you instead of my finite, Ego-made self. Today I choose surrender, To let go of my independent will and the desire to control the outcomes of life. With a heart full of hope and a spirit willing to be led, I entrust my future and all my past to your care. I acknowledge my inability to overcome my struggles by my own human will and finite strength. Help me to be conscious of your presence, Love, And peace, Which fills the void within me, Which transforms my pain into purpose and my struggles into strength. I humbly express my gratitude for your loving care and for setting me on this path of letting go of my pain, My finite ego, And my illusions of control. As we move forward as one, I ask you for patience with myself, Trust in your timing, In confidence that I am forever embraced, Never without hope, And eternally guided toward a deeper awareness of my union with you and greater and greater spiritual awakenings. Amen.
