In this meditation, we’ll be engaging the Sufi practice of remembrance also known as Dhikr. It is very similar to the practice of Centering Prayer in the Christian Mystic tradition. This is a practice of opening a window to direct experience with God. By going into your own heart and repeating your own sacred word that represents the presence and essence of God. What’s more important than the individual word is the desire and willingness to experience your divinity more profoundly.

Inhale.

Exhale.

It's safe to relax.

Hello and welcome.

Today we'll be engaging the Sufi practice of remembrance.

This is a practice of opening a window to direct experience with the divine.

By going into your own heart and repeating your sacred word that represents the presence and essence of God to you.

Whether it's Allah,

Yahweh,

Jehovah,

Brahman,

Elohim,

Source,

Divine Creator,

God.

Whatever you connect to on a heart and soul level.

What's more important than the individual word is the energy behind it and how you connect to it.

As you do this practice,

Your connection with the divine will open up and strengthen.

In God's presence,

Old wounds and hurts dissolve.

New strength,

Love and lightness of being arises.

In this state,

There's the understanding that there is no separation,

No difference between the self and God.

This is true union,

True bliss and the true path of awakening.

It's something that will build over time so don't be too quick to judge your first experience.

Just approach it with an open and willing heart and then just let whatever happens happen.

Knowing that your journey is your own,

It's unique and it's perfect for you.

To begin,

Find somewhere quiet and comfortable to sit.

Allowing yourself to be supported and held by your chair or the earth beneath you.

Feeling your feet in contact with the floor.

Close down your eyes.

Tuning into you.

Getting a sense of your presence.

Simply seeing yourself and observing from a place of wakefulness without judging anything.

Simply allowing all things to be.

Taking three deep and conscious breaths.

Feeling your belly expand on the inhale and softly contract on the exhale.

In and out.

Breathing in,

Feeling your belly expand.

And exhaling out slowly.

Feeling your belly button gently draw in with your exhale.

Now bringing your awareness to your heart.

If it feels good,

You can place the palm of one of your hands over your heart.

I recommend placing it over your energetic heart which is about two inches below the center of your collarbone.

Feeling the essence and energy of your heart.

Now I'd like you to begin to introduce your sacred word for the divine.

Speaking it directly from your own heart.

Repeating it slowly.

Taking your time.

Leaving space between repetitions where you can simply feel the divine's presence washing over and through you.

If thoughts come,

That's okay.

Simply release them and return ever so gently to your sacred word.

Just breathing.

And letting everything else fall away.

As you connect to your word,

Feeling the essence and energy of the divine as you do.

Continue like this for the next ten minutes or so.

You'll hear a soft chime when the time is complete.

Thank you for listening.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Notice how you feel now.

Breathe.

Allow your experience to be perfect as it is.

Let there be no judgment of yourself.

Simply allow it to be.

Slowly bringing your attention back to your body.

Perhaps taking some gentle movements,

Wiggling the toes and the fingers.

Maybe doing a nice stretch.

Taking as much time as you need here.

When you're ready,

Gently opening up your eyes.

As you move into the rest of your day,

See if you can stay connected to your heart.

Stay connected to your awareness of the divine within you and all around you.

Allowing this awareness to center you and anchor you in the now in a state of loving awareness and connection.

From my heart to yours,

Namaste.

Thank you.

Thank you.
