I want to talk about the ultimate self-help technique.
For me it is anyway.
In my 30s I went through a period of great chaos that seemed to go on forever and more and more of my life fell apart and I couldn't,
I didn't know why I just was in this tsunami that didn't seem to end.
And finally from inside myself what happened was I suddenly started feeling a compassion inside.
It was like it was a compassion and I could tap into it and I could send it to myself.
I could focus on this compassion,
Self-compassion.
For this poor person it was just like everything's falling apart.
I just felt like such a loser on so many levels and it was like falling into this big abyss and grabbing hold of this compassion and I really grabbed hold of it.
I started sending myself compassion several times a day and really I did have compassion.
I imagined somebody looking at me from outside,
Maybe like God looking at this poor person who is stuck in so much confusion and turmoil and that this person or God or the angels would indeed feel compassion for me because I was so locked in it and I could feel how locked in it I was.
I focused on the compassion and gradually as time went on I started feeling more and more compassion for myself and then as a result of that I felt more and more compassion for other people.
So I felt compassion for myself and then great peace,
The peace that comes with this.
And then in that peace I had room to understand others and feel compassion for them.
And really that's what I did for the next 30 years as well as find really good teachers to study with.
But I always would come back to this practice of sending myself compassion,
Imagining angels hugging me,
Imagining God's perspective of this poor flawed person of utter compassion and it healed me.
I healed into this compassion and that's why my work I call it the compassionate way and I call myself the compassionate shaman.
And it's a really,
Really lovely way to live.
Thanks for listening.
