Today I'd like to share with you some thoughts on the healing power of forgiveness.
Please find a safe,
Comfortable space to relax,
Either sitting in a chair or lying down.
I will ask that if you notice any tension,
Try to release it.
Let it go.
Any tension in your shoulders?
Let it go.
Tension in your jaw?
Let it go.
Take a nice,
Deep breath and exhale,
Letting it all go.
As we think back on our past,
Let us reflect on times when we fell short of doing the right thing.
There may be times when we were unkind,
Dishonest,
Selfish,
And even cruel to others,
Looking back and wishing we had never done these things.
We all have things in our past that we regret.
There may have been times we did these things out of fear,
Loneliness,
Pain,
Or misunderstanding.
We feel the dark cloud of guilt that we have carried.
Take some time here to recall those memories.
Feel your feelings,
Process them,
And release them.
Let them go.
I will give you a moment to reflect here,
But you may say something like,
In this present moment,
I ask for your forgiveness.
I am sorry.
I seek your forgiveness.
Please forgive me.
I'll give you a moment here,
And you may pause this recording if you need more time.
Now,
We may want to offer ourselves forgiveness for things we have done in our past.
I will give you a moment to reflect,
But you may say to yourself,
I have carried this guilt for enough time now,
And I am ready to release this burden for good.
I forgive you,
And I love you.
I will give you a moment now.
Then,
There are times other people have hurt us.
We may have been betrayed,
Mentally and physically abused,
Lied to,
Or abandoned.
Take a moment here to reflect on these times of pain and betrayal by others to us.
These feelings may still be lingering in our memory.
Notice your feelings,
And stay with them for a moment.
You may say to yourself,
I am now ready.
My heart is open to forgiveness.
I am ready to offer you forgiveness.
I will no longer carry the pain of resentment and hate in my heart.
I forgive you.
Notice how you feel right now.
You may feel lighter,
As that heavy weight has been lifted.
If there is one thing that I have learned in life over the years,
It is that we are not bad people trying to be good,
But that we are all good people trying to be better,
To do better.
What I mean by this is that we all have lessons to learn in life,
And as we make mistakes,
We learn and we grow.
We strive to be and do better each day.
To heal our wounds,
We must forgive.
As difficult as it is,
And as difficult as it might be at times,
Kindness,
Compassion,
And love will always help us to forgive.
Place your right hand over your heart,
And your left hand over your right,
Over your right.
Take a deep inhale through the nose,
And exhale out through the mouth.
Let us now be free of those who wronged us,
And let us not forget to forgive ourselves.
We can be most unforgiving when it comes to ourselves.
This only weighs us down,
And drains all of our energy.
We need to release it all,
Let it go.
So in the spirit of forgiveness,
Let us gather all the kindness,
Strength,
Compassion,
And love to go forward in life from this moment on.
Begin forgiveness today.
Soften your heart and forgive.
Forgiving is your biggest victory.
