Above you stretches the infinite sky.

Darkness surrounds you.

And stars light up distant galaxies far away.

All that exists in front of you is space.

Possibility.

Potential.

And right now there is nothing to see.

Nothing to do.

And no one to be.

Now it is time to rest.

The invitation sweeps over your bones,

Your cells,

Your muscles,

Signifying to your energy centers to sleep,

To rest,

To surrender.

Beginning with your right foot,

The tips of your toes.

Envision any stored energy,

Any stress dissipating from your big toe.

All of your toes on your right foot feel light.

Moving to the arch of your foot.

And your heel,

The sense,

The relaxation.

Nothingness.

Freedom from tasks.

The top of your foot to softening.

Right up to your ankle.

Sense of release.

Continuing up your leg.

The shin and the calf.

Get lovingly invited to rest.

Sleep sets into your knee.

And any remaining strain or stress from the day gets drained out energetically from your knee,

Leaving it rested.

Travelling up to your thigh.

Strong bones in your leg begin to soften.

They energetically rest as the muscles and fascia around them take the message to and stop holding arms tight.

Stop retaining the messages of the day and instead welcome rest.

Up to the genitals,

The buttocks.

Any contraction,

Blockages,

Stress.

All of this leaves your body.

There is a softness,

An expansion that replaces the contraction.

Your left toes also begin now to join the right foot and start to soften.

The arch of the foot,

The top of the foot invites every little muscle within your feet to soften and relax.

The heel is held energetically and invited to join the rest of the foot as is the ankle.

The whole on the left foot feels relaxed.

Moving up this leg,

The shins,

The front of the leg,

The skin of the lower leg,

The calf muscle,

All of the leg releases its strain and stress from the day and softens.

The left knee releases any stored struggle and replaces it with spaciousness.

Everything is recycled out of the body that it no longer needs.

Moving up this leg even further to the thigh,

The heavy bones that lie within,

Even these get the message that it's time to pause.

They feel heavier.

They feel like they're sinking slightly into the earth.

Right up to the hip joint where we hold a lot of our emotional storage,

Emotional baggage.

There's an invisible drain,

An imaginary drain that's draining out any stored tension,

Emotion that no longer needs to journey with us into slumber.

The hip is wrapped in softness and invited to be expansive as are the genitals,

Soft,

Not contracted,

Not holding tension,

Not a store ground for that which didn't work or that which may work later,

Right now just themselves.

Relaxed.

Now up to the waist and the belly,

All the internal organs,

One by one you can feel them slowly resting,

Slowly slowing down their processes,

Committing to giving you rest,

The kidneys and the liver,

Spleen and appendix,

The intestine and the bowels,

Everything within is resting.

Moving up to the base of the ribs,

Each rib rising and falling with the soft inhalation of your breath,

But softening,

Encouraging sleepfulness,

Encouraging giving up on the day and drifting into slumber.

Flipping the heart in a beautiful golden blanket,

Inviting it to slow down just slightly,

To take its rest,

Have its pause,

Receive the deep nutrients it receives from a beautiful night's sleep.

Speaking to our heart as if it were our little child,

Sleep now heart,

You have worked hard today,

Singing love and gratitude for the heart that beats,

Regardless of whether we tell it to or not,

Bathing in that golden blanket that you draped it in,

Protection,

Resilience,

A regal sleep for a hard working heart,

Not the lungs which nourish us,

Purposefully slowing down the breath even more now,

Not to alarm the body,

But just to let it know that there will be no more movement tonight,

That we are immersed in darkness,

That the lower half of ourselves is already drifting in its own wondrous slumber,

And the rest of us will soon follow.

Each vertebrae is wrapped too in this invitation,

There is a relaxation pulsing up your spine,

The messages running alongside that current,

That sleep is now eminent,

The collarbones softening,

Expanding,

Releasing,

The muscles around our shoulders softening,

Expanding,

Now trickling down our right arm,

Our under arm,

Our upper arm,

Our elbow,

All invited into deep surrender,

You feel it sinking into the bed below you,

Drawing deeper and deeper as the relaxation travels down your lower arm of the right side,

And your wrist,

Your hard working hands drive you,

And message people,

And cook,

And carry,

And love for your loved ones,

You thank each finger as the extension of the heart that it is,

The messengers of the heart,

The little courier drivers of the heart,

Each nail protects the finger,

You feel every single finger drop deeper than it ever has before,

And to rest,

Moving to the left arm now,

The upper arm,

Large muscles,

Bones,

All drop into a deep sense of release,

Become more spacious,

Release that which just doesn't serve,

And the leap and drain from the elbow,

Any built up tension swiftly drains away and disappears to be transmuted to something of your highest good,

As the relaxation slowly takes hold of your lower arm,

Your wrist,

And then drips down every finger,

Acknowledging this hand too,

As the antenna of the heart,

As the postal service,

The messages of the heart,

Honouring your palm,

All the little bones,

All the little muscles,

For everything they did today,

Tracing up the neck,

The neck that's held you sturdy all day,

Giving the neck a scan for any remains of tension,

Up the spine,

Around the neck,

The front,

The voice box,

Glands releasing anything that's still holding on,

And feeling the warmth of the body scan rise up and outline your jaw,

Your chin,

Your ears,

Up the back of your head and in between every single hair follicle,

Down the front of your face,

Forehead and eyebrows,

Eyes and eyelashes,

Nose and cheeks,

Lips,

Teeth,

Tongue,

Right down to that point of the chin,

North of your mind's eye,

Lying in the darkness,

You envision a soft white light has been left by your body scan and you are glowing,

You are glowing in an orb,

A sheath of protection,

Safety,

But this journey you have tonight will be extremely restful,

Extremely nourishing and will rejuvenate you in the morning,

Let your mind float over the white light starting from your toes,

Just keep repeating,

Toes of the right foot all the way up and the toes of the left,

In the same sequence that we have just been tracing,

You are tired and it is time.
