Sometimes when we feel overwhelmed or like we have lost the ground,
It can help to locate where we are on the planet right now,
In the present.
Take a moment to notice the pull of earth's gravity.
Let your attention gently rest on the downward settling,
The sense of being drawn towards the ground.
Notice how your body responds to this pull.
Can you surrender and allow it?
Feeling the support of the earth beneath you.
Now we'll begin to locate ourselves in space.
Start way out.
Imagine yourself in the vastness of the planet.
You're here somewhere on earth.
And now,
Zooming in,
You're in your country.
Locating this on the globe now.
The familiar landmass,
The edges where it meets the sea,
Or borders other places.
Feel yourself held within this larger space.
I invite you to zoom in closer now,
To your region or state.
A smaller piece of land,
But still vast.
Notice if you can sense your body in relation to this land.
Now I invite you to zoom in further,
To your city or town.
Sense where you are in relation to the town or city centre.
Where the major buildings or monuments are.
Can you sense the direction of the ocean?
Or the nearby patches of wild wilderness?
What's to the north of you?
Without needing to be exact.
What's out in that direction,
Beyond the walls?
Now to the south.
To the east.
And to the west.
Sense what's out there.
Roads,
Trees,
Sky,
Other people,
Animals.
Just notice.
Now moving in closer to the general area that surrounds you.
A radius of a few hundred metres,
Perhaps.
And sense what's in that space.
How does it feel?
Houses,
Parks,
Footpaths.
And sense into where you are in relation to those things.
Let your ears reach outward now.
Can you hear any sounds outside?
Which direction are they coming from?
Are they close?
Far away?
Imagine your body in relation to those sounds.
And now sense the building you're in.
Your home,
Office,
Wherever you are.
Take a moment to really sense it.
The walls,
Roof,
The structure that holds you.
Imagine looking around you from the outside,
Seeing yourself within it.
Now bring your awareness inside.
Sense the shape or floor plan of the building you're in.
Where are you within it?
Are you in a corner?
Near a wall?
In the middle of a room?
Can you feel your location within the space?
Now without opening your eyes or turning your head.
Sense what's in front of you.
Now to the left.
Behind you.
And to your right.
Notice as you sense all the way around your body,
You are at the centre of this circle.
Where is the furniture?
Can you feel the spatial relationship between your body and the things around you?
Including the doors and windows.
Now come back to your body.
Feel your feet or where your body meets the ground.
The chair,
The bed.
How far are you from the ground?
Can you sense the distance?
Now sense the ceiling above.
Can you feel the distance between the top of your head and the ceiling?
Notice any sounds in the room now.
Where are they coming from?
Which direction?
Sense your body in relation to those sounds.
And how close or far they are.
Now finally just allow yourself to notice where you are located in time and space.
Anchored onto planet Earth.
And when you're ready,
Gently open your eyes or come back to the space around you.
Notice what's different.
Notice any changes in your sense of self.
Perhaps you feel more here,
More landed,
More connected.
