Bedtime with Mrs.
Honeybee Today,
In the Honeybee neighborhood,
We'll be taking our little furry friend to the Pog Dark.
What's the Pog Dark,
Mrs.
Honeybee?
It means.
.
.
Jog park.
Oh no!
Harold heard me say the magic words.
Harold knows a few different words and phrases,
Like food,
Walk,
And his favorite,
Dog park.
Okay boy,
Let's get your leash.
I can't wait to see what dog friends are there today.
All you have to do is close your eyes,
Get cozy,
And listen to the sound of my voice.
Mrs.
Honeybee will be your guide.
Let's begin.
You are here,
Rounding the corner to arrive at our house,
Walking slow,
Breezy steps up to our porch.
The sun is shining down on you,
And you're feeling all the ease and charming simplicity of visiting the Honeybee neighborhood,
A place you are always welcome and always at home.
We go on so many fun adventures together that sometimes we forget the pure joy of just being with the people you love and sheer gratitude of existing at such an exciting time.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in through your nose.
Feel your chest and your spirits lift as fresh air fills your lungs.
Then,
Slowly,
Breathe all the way out through your mouth until your lungs are fully emptied,
Eagerly awaiting your next invigorating breath in.
Looking toward our house,
Something,
Or should I say someone else,
Is eagerly awaiting.
It's Harold.
Besides being so excited to see him,
You are also concerned as to how he got out of the house all on his own.
You quicken your leisurely walk to a jog as Harold runs toward you.
He leaps into your arms and you hug him in close,
Refusing to put him down at all until you're on the porch where his outdoor dog bed sits with a half-chewed toy bone on it.
You look around and don't see us,
But it appears Harold has been out here for some time.
You lift your hand to knock on our door,
But before you can,
I open it in a panic that is instantly relieved when I see you holding our little Harold.
Oh,
Goodness,
Am I happy to see both of you.
Thank you for finding him,
My little honeybee.
Harold,
We were looking everywhere for you.
Melody Bee yells to the front door from looking behind the couch when she hears Harold's familiar bark.
Then she rushes over.
Harold,
You can't do this to us,
Buddy.
I feel like I can't breathe when I don't know where you are.
There you are,
Harold,
And our little honeybee.
Wow,
We thought we lost one,
Then we gained two.
Today is our lucky day.
Before we head back in the house to enjoy having Harold back and you visiting,
I peek my head outside to see Harold's treat out there as well as his leash and harness tucked away on the other side of his porch bed.
I pick it up while Harold is distracted with you inside and stuff it into my apron pocket.
Harold is a crafty fellow,
And it appears he was scheming to get himself to the dog park some way,
Somehow.
I walk back in the house and close the door behind me to join you,
Mr.
Honeybee,
Melody Bee,
And Harold at the couch.
You're such a good pup,
Harold,
Even though you are some kind of an escape artist when you want to be.
I'm so grateful to have you by my side every day.
Me too,
Harold.
You are so happy and cuddly,
And you always have a smile on ready to go each morning.
Your smile and your happily wagging tail makes me smile.
It seems Harold has completely forgotten about his leash that would have stayed stashed away on the porch had I not grabbed it.
It jingles in my pocket and reminds him of his plan that he has all but forgotten since you arrived.
I pull it out of my apron pocket and lay it down on the couch beside me.
Harold,
My love,
Did you escape today because each of us told you we couldn't go on a walk to the dog park until later?
Harold,
What were you thinking?
You were waiting for a friendly neighbor to stroll by so you could hitch a walk with them to the dog park.
Well,
At least you had some kind of plan,
And it wasn't you just running off.
That's true.
I'm grateful you didn't run away,
Harold.
We were worried sick about you,
Little guy.
Something I'm grateful for is that our little honeybee decided to surprise us with a visit because you distracted Harold from his escape plan with his own happiness at seeing his favorite person in the world,
You.
Now that I think about it,
I'm also grateful that we have such kind and loving neighbors that would have totally taken Harold to the dog park and let us know where he was.
Because all of our neighbors know he's not supposed to be out by himself.
Now that I think about it,
Just this morning in my gratitude journal,
I wrote that I was grateful for Harold's snuggles.
So much to be grateful for today.
And every day,
Really.
Do you have a gratitude journal,
My little honeybee?
It's really just a little notebook with lined paper,
But it has made a big difference in my life,
And it can make a big difference in yours,
Too.
It did for me,
After I learned how to write,
Of course.
I started keeping track of all that I am grateful for,
And now I have well over 2,
000 entries.
I love that,
Melody Bee,
And I'm so happy it's helped you,
Too.
Every morning,
Right when I get up,
Even before I brush my teeth,
I write down three things that I'm grateful for.
That's how I practice something called gratitude.
And it's considered a practice because you do a little bit each day to get better and better at it over time.
Just like sports or dance or anything,
Really,
Practicing gratitude every day helps you become a more grateful,
Gracious person.
A grateful person appreciates who and what they have around them,
And because of that,
They can spread love and kindness out into the world,
Starting with their neighborhoods.
Practicing gratitude also enables us to reflect and give thanks for the positive things in our lives.
When we fill our hearts with gratitude,
We bring the things we appreciate into focus.
Just like Mr.
Honey Bee always says,
Take it away,
My dear.
What you focus on grows,
So let's focus on what we're grateful for.
I've been practicing gratitude for over 10 years,
And I'm still learning how to better love and appreciate who and what I have in my life,
Even after so many years.
Some days are more challenging than others,
And on those challenging days,
My gratitude journal is my very own story of all the joyful memories that I can lean on when I need to.
Harold would love to practice gratitude with us,
Wouldn't you,
Little guy?
First,
Let's clear our minds and open our hearts.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in through your nose or snout.
With the air in your chest,
Feel the sensation of your heart beating once,
Twice,
Three times.
Then,
Slowly,
Breathe all the way out through your mouth,
And again,
Focus your strong,
Consistent heartbeat that's always there with you.
In your mind,
Bring up one thing you are grateful for.
It can be a big thing,
Or a small thing,
Or not a thing at all.
It can be a person,
Or even something that you recently learned.
With what you are grateful for pictured and held in your mind,
Take another slow,
Deep breath in through your nose.
As fresh air fills your lungs,
Gather in all the gratitude and love you have within you.
Then,
Slowly,
Breathe all the way out through your mouth,
And quietly,
In your mind or even out loud,
Say thank you and send some love out into the world.
Imagine holding what you're grateful for close to your heart at all times.
Feel thankful to have this as part of your life,
And keep it in your heart to stay.
Great job practicing gratitude,
Little Honey Bee.
And you too,
Harold.
I think we're all finally able to go to the dog park now.
Mr.
Honey Bee,
Did you finish up your project for today?
Yep.
I got as far as I wanted to get today.
This is a big one,
So I'm doing a little bit each day,
So when it's finally done,
I'll know it's done right.
Melody Bee,
Did you get your gardening done for the day that you wanted to?
Yep,
I'm all done.
Wonderful.
Now you don't have to escape to go to your favorite place in the whole neighborhood,
Harold.
Let's go to the dog park.
He is so excited to go for his walk that he can hardly sit still.
Luckily,
He doesn't have to anymore.
He leaps over to me on the other side of the couch and manages to put on his harness by himself.
With his loose,
Unfastened harness hanging off of him,
He trots over to you to click it closed for him.
Every day,
Mr.
Honey Bee and I try to take Harold for a walk around the neighborhood.
It's one of our favorite things to do because we get to enjoy the sunshine,
See all of our friends in the neighborhood,
And sometimes we even learn something new.
I told Harold we might not be able to make it to the park today,
But I guess he made sure that didn't happen.
Don't worry,
Harold.
You'll get to see your friends.
Harold leads the way to the park,
Pulling the leash with all of his might to arrive faster than his little legs can even walk.
It's a beautiful day outside.
The sun is out and shining brightly,
Which brings all the birds out.
And they must think it's a beautiful day out,
Too,
Because they're all singing more than usual.
We enjoy a quiet stroll to the park,
Passing by all the brightly colored houses,
And remembering all our adventures here in the Honey Bee neighborhood.
Melody Bee breaks our silent stroll when she asks Mr.
Honey Bee a question.
Mr.
Honey Bee,
I don't think you said what you wrote in your gratitude journal today.
Do you remember your entries from this morning?
Of course.
I think about it very carefully each morning.
I try not to repeat what I'm grateful for,
And I really try to focus on the feeling of gratitude.
Today,
It was kind of hard to choose just three things,
So I wrote down four.
This one is technically a repeater,
But I mean it every time I write it.
I am grateful for the sunshine.
Ooh,
That's a good one.
I am grateful for the smell of Mrs.
Honey Bee's cookie,
Especially at breakfast.
I am grateful for our wonderful Honey Bee neighborhood family.
And most importantly today,
Of all days,
I wrote that I am grateful for our little Honey Bee.
And today was the day you made sure Harold got back home safe and sound.
See?
Gratitude is like a never-ending cycle that goes on and on and on.
Those are some wonderful things to be grateful for,
My dear.
I'll bet if Harold could write all three of his entries,
Today would be that he is grateful for the dog park.
Oh no,
Did we forget Harold's dog treats?
He loves to share with all of his friends.
I'll buzz back to the house quickly to go get them.
Melody Bee buzzes away in a hurry so she can get back to us with Harold's favorite treats before we get to the park.
It's such a lovely day for a nice,
Long walk.
There's a warm,
Gentle breeze blowing that seems to amplify the bird song once again.
This wonderful home and neighborhood is another thing to be grateful for,
Especially because you are here with us,
My little Honey Bee.
Here,
Do you want to hold Harold's leash and walk him?
He's finally tired himself out from pulling.
This bright blue leash is his favorite because his name is written on it with big,
Yellow letters.
Here,
Have a try.
Oh,
There's one of our neighbors,
Isabel,
Skateboarding.
She built her very own ramp out of scrap wood that her dad had left over from one of his construction sites.
Isabel and her friends practice skateboarding every day,
Just like we practice gratitude.
And she's becoming quite good.
Oh look,
She's going to try a kickflip.
She landed it!
Great job,
Isabel!
I didn't know anything about skateboarding until she showed me.
See,
You never know what you'll learn taking a stroll through the neighborhood.
Harold likes walking with you,
And you're doing a great job holding his leash.
Here comes Melody Bee.
Wow,
That was fast.
I buzzed as quickly as I could.
Got the treats.
Did you see Marshall over there,
Sitting in the grass?
On my way back,
I asked him what he was doing bent over like that.
I wanted to make sure he was okay,
You know.
Don't worry,
He's totally fine.
He's just studying a new type of insect he found.
Well,
It's new to him.
I've known about panda ants for some time.
Do you want a fun fact about panda ants?
Of course you do!
Okay,
A panda ant is neither a panda nor an ant.
It's actually a wasp,
And a really,
Really fluffy one.
It looks like a flying panda.
Interesting.
I've never met a panda ant.
I'll have to visit Marshall soon.
Uh-oh,
Heads up,
Fly ball headed our way.
Phew,
Never mind.
Timmy caught it,
Like he always does.
Good thing,
Too,
Because I didn't even bring my baseball glove with me.
Tim is practicing playing the outfield.
Specifically,
How to catch fly balls.
He says that you have to catch the ball with your eyes,
Which apparently means that you should never,
Ever let your glove block your eyesight.
I used that advice for our last Honeybee Neighborhood game,
And let me tell you,
It worked.
We won the game.
You gotta come to our next one,
My little Honeybee.
Oh,
Look,
Down on the sidewalk,
Someone drew out a hopscotch game in rainbow-colored chalk.
I'll hold Harold and his leash,
So you can hop along to the hopscotch,
My little Honeybee.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth,
Then balance on one foot on the square with a bright red 1 in it.
Imagine you're a bright pink flamingo.
You can even hold your flamingo wings out to the side to help you balance.
Then hop to the purple 2,
And as you do,
You switch legs to balance on the opposite leg.
Then both feet on the ground over the 3 and the 4,
Then back to one leg for 5,
Two legs for 6 and 7,
Then finally one leg for 8.
Great job!
Let me try.
Melody Bee,
Are you going to hop or.
.
.
Instead of hopping,
Melody Bee buzzes in little,
Dizzying circles across each number until she's so dizzy from her attempt at hopscotch that she hitches a ride in Harold's fur all the rest of the way to the dog park.
Harold is really getting excited now.
When we get this close,
He sticks his little fluffy snout in the air and smells that all of his friends are close.
They usually meet us at the gate,
And here they are now.
There's a husky with light blue eyes,
And there's a dalmatian,
An Australian shepherd,
A golden retriever,
And a teeny tiny teacup yorkie.
That's Harold's bestest pup friend.
We open this first gate and make sure it's closed.
Then we open the second gate to go in the park.
We're careful to make sure none of the dogs get out.
Okay,
Harold,
Go have fun!
Harold and his friends chase each other for hours and hours,
Tumbling through the grass and exploring the trees and wilderness just beyond this green grass area.
The dalmatian really likes you.
She loves to be pet,
But Harold won't let us sit still for long.
He quickly gets our attention and gets us up to show us his very favorite part of the neighborhood dog park,
Like he does every single time we come to the dog park.
Harold knows how to get there,
And he thinks we don't,
So every few steps he looks back to make sure we're following him.
He turns right at the tall bushes.
It's so overgrown here that we have to push through some of the brush a bit.
For the first few minutes of the impromptu hike,
All we can see besides whoever is immediately in front of us are bushes,
But we know we are almost there when we can hear it.
Do you hear it?
The rushing honey river runs right through the dog park.
The dogs can swim here because a small pond has formed on the banks of the river and it doesn't flow so fast.
Harold and the rest of the little pups love to splash in the water and play.
Like always,
I brought our park picnic blanket so we can sit down and pet all the pups,
Enjoy the sunshine,
And just relax without a care in the world.
Isn't it so nice to feel the sun shining warmly down on you?
The fresh smells of the grass,
The flowers,
And the flowing river fill the air.
I just love the dog park and this neighborhood we call home.
I am very grateful to live here,
To have all my friends,
Including my dog friends,
And most importantly,
I am so very grateful for you,
My little honey bee.
Spending time with you is one of my favorite things to do.
You just never know what adventure awaits when we spend time together.
Oh,
Here comes Harold.
He wants to curl up and enjoy the sunshine with us too.
You wrap Harold in his favorite towel,
Then he curls up beside you and instantly falls asleep.
Take your slowest,
Deepest breath in through your nose.
Feel the warm sunshine on your cheeks and the cool misty air coming in through your nose.
Then slowly breathe out through your mouth and sink into the soft green grass along the honey river.
Always remember,
Mrs.
Honey Bee believes in you.
You are special and you are loved.
I can't wait to see you again.
