Thinking about death and dying can be uncomfortable,
Dark,
And even scary.
But it doesn't have to be.
When we look at life from the perspective of our death,
We begin to realize who and what matters most.
Our problems suddenly seem smaller.
We find more gratitude in the everyday.
We begin to feel more alive.
This is the first in a series of contemplations that you can choose to listen to on a daily basis,
Or however feels right for you.
When listening,
You don't need to be still,
In silence,
Or in solitude.
Just do whatever feels most comfortable for you.
Now,
Before we begin this journey,
It's worth mentioning that you may encounter emotions that are uncomfortable or unfamiliar.
And that's totally okay.
And sort of the point.
The topic of death is one that we don't often talk about,
And it's natural for these feelings to arise.
So just remember,
You are safe,
And we're here to guide you along the way.
Now,
A simple way that we hear people contemplate their death is through the idea of,
When I'm on my deathbed,
Dot dot dot.
It's a quick way to gain perspective on life,
Putting everything in context of our final moments.
It turns out,
An Australian caregiver named Bronnie Ware actually recorded the most common regrets of her dying patients.
And she found five key themes.
This is what they told her.
I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself.
I wish I hadn't worked so hard.
I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.
I wish I'd stayed in touch with my friends.
And the last,
I wish I'd let myself be happy.
It's easy to feel our perspective change when we realize that we won't be here forever.
And it goes to show that by contemplating death,
We can reframe our daily life and see the things that truly matter.
So now,
Take a moment and consider this.
What might you regret as you lay on your own deathbed?
As you consider this,
You may find yourself more aware of the things that really matter in your life.
And that's why we're here.
To help put your life in perspective.
We created MORTAL as a way of sharing the profound benefits that we've experienced in our own lives by contemplating life and death.
And we sincerely hope that this unique and perhaps emotional journey offers you a new perspective on what it feels like to be alive,
Breathing in your body right now.
So what do you think?
Ready to try something new and go deep with us?
Before you go,
Just take a deep breath.
And as you exhale,
Know that you are here and you are very much alive.
