As humans,
We have a wonderful ability to attach labels and categorize the world around us into what is good and what is bad.
It's partly a product of our evolution and our ability to survive in a very uncertain world.
We love creating narratives based in the dualistic relationships between things.
Good,
Bad,
Pretty,
Ugly,
Fast and slow.
This ability to relate to what we perceive also locks us into our own existence.
Think about an existence where these dualistic relationships didn't inform our ability to feel ourselves,
Who we are.
What if next time you look in the mirror,
You saw something beyond these dualistic associations?
The good,
The bad,
The skinny,
The fat,
The short,
The tall,
The feeling like hot stuff and then not so hot.
This dualistic way of experiencing the world happens on all levels because it's in our nature.
Whether separating right and wrong or life and death,
It's only natural that we separate things in order to make sense of them.
The question is,
In doing this,
Are we preventing ourselves from seeing the reality beneath these divisions?
Continuing with this,
Take a moment to think about the dualistic ways you see yourself and the world around you.
How might these labels or associations prevent or change the way you perceive your lived experience?
Think what would it feel like to drop these dualistic ideas of yourself and the world around you?
Seeing yourself and the world around you,
A world free of the happy and sads,
The haves and the have-nots,
And resting in this thought just another moment more.
And when you're ready,
For better or worse,
Using this contemplation as a simple reminder that you are here and very much alive.
