There are many ways to gain a deeper perspective on death.
Dreams,
Psychedelics,
And meditation,
Along with many other experiences,
Can help us expand our awareness of our mortality.
For those who have lived through a near-death experience,
They say they've felt some deep or deeper understanding in what happens when you die.
But still,
We do not really know,
Do we?
In fact,
There is a good chance we never will.
That is,
Until it actually happens.
Before we start,
Acknowledge your surroundings and know that you are perfectly safe right here.
In a similar way,
Most of us don't remember what it was like to be born.
Sure,
We may have been told stories of how we came into this world,
But it remains a mystery not unlike our eventual death.
These bookends of our lives are incredibly personal and unique moments.
Isn't there something so curious about the way that we may never know what these moments feel like?
Really,
We are much better at remembering all of the in-between,
The countless moments and experiences sandwiched between our entry and our exit out of this world.
So take the next few moments to really appreciate all that has happened,
All that you have done that you have experienced from the moment of your first breath.
In fact,
Let's stop and really appreciate that there was a moment where your lungs filled with air for the first time.
Wow.
Really take it in.
Imagining,
Appreciating that first moment when bam,
Your lungs met air for the first time.
Now,
Take a deep breath in.
Hold it in and feel into the space where your lungs are.
And as you exhale,
Recognize that throughout your life,
With all its ups and downs,
There has always been this one constant,
Your breath.
For the next few moments,
Just focus on the inhales and exhales,
You breathing in and breathing out.
As you do this,
Connect with this part of yourself that has been here all along.
In and out,
Over and over again.
And coming back from this breath contemplation.
And using these last few moments as you step back into your day,
Fully knowing and appreciating just how alive you are.
