Most of us find it hard to stop. It isn’t easy when the world around you keeps going, and wants you to keep going with it. Perhaps start with a small space for prayer in the midst of your day. Set a time, and keep it. Stop where you are and pray. To help you, this liturgy for Midday Prayer I wrote a couple of years ago is intentionally short enough that it takes only three minutes to recite; and it can be committed to memory.

Hi there,

This is Mark Luttman,

Also known as Brother Frederick James,

And I welcome you to this short liturgy as we pause for midday prayer.

Let us pray.

O God,

Come to our assistance.

O Lord,

Make haste to help us.

Glory to God,

Father,

Son,

And Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Glory be to God,

Who has shown us the light.

Lead us through darkness to light.

Lead us through sadness to joy.

Lead us through death to immortality.

Glory be to God,

Who has shown us the light.

Psalm 117.

Alleluia.

O praise the Lord all you nations.

Acclaim God all you peoples.

Strong is God's love for us.

The Lord is faithful forever.

A reading from the Gospel according to Luke chapter 10.

Martha,

Martha,

The Lord answered,

You are worried and upset about many things,

But few things are needed.

Thanks be to God.

Lord have mercy.

Christ have mercy.

Lord have mercy.

Our Father,

Who art in heaven,

Hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come.

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.

Amen.

As we go about the remainder of our day,

O God,

May our work be a conscious prayer to you,

Our actions a witness to the love of Christ,

And our hearts mindful that your Spirit is with us.

Amen.

Let us bless the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

A lovely pause in the day, short and calming, focusing the mind on what's important as we go through our days.
