I Am - Lent Day 39: Love That Reveals God

Jesus is at the Last Supper, speaking to His disciples with deep love. He tells them, “Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.” When we look at Jesus, we see the heart of God—love that heals, mercy that restores, truth that sets us free. In Christ, we find the way to God, because He is the way, the truth, and the life. In this meditation you will contemplate what part of God’s love is speaking to you today. Where is Jesus revealing God’s presence in your life? May you see God in Christ, God in others, God in yourself.

When I was a teen and young adult, I strived to be forgiving and merciful and see God in others. But I didn’t have life experience, and in my naïveté, I let other people take advantage of me. I put myself in emotionally dangerous situations. Forgiving not seven times but 77 times is something that abusive people love to hear and can take advantage of. This is something that worries me greatly- how do you live out these principles you shared here in a world where there are very truly horrible and terrible people? How do both try to live by God’s word and be forgiving and loving but also protect and care for yourself with appropriate boundaries? I’m middle aged and still learning the boundary part that was never taught to me in my Catholic upbringing. I only ever learned to care for others and not for myself, and looking back, I think that lack of balance is a problem. These are things I think about in this meditation, which by the way is beautiful and I thank you for. I love when you chuckle as you are talking, caught up in the emotion.
