The Virtual Reality Of The Mind: Root Cause Of Our Suffering

Everything is arising in you, dissolving in you. Your entire experience is in you. Your entire experience is you. There is no separation between you and your experience—seamless, borderless. This meditation reveals that all psychological suffering happens in virtual reality (the mind's idea-based puzzle spanning time/space) rather than experiential reality (this moment, here, now). You'll recognize yourself as the changeless awareness witnessing all change. Like a screen filled with visuals and sound, yet untouched by any. Between two thoughts, two breaths, you exist—full of yourself alone. The tight rope of here-now-reality is your only access to truth. Most suffering requires thinking, conceptualizing, believingthat imagination is more real than this. You cannot be seen (you are the seer), cannot be heard (you are silent), cannot be thought (you have no shape/name). Wake up to this dreamlike experience. Nothing has ever left a trace in you.

Allow the changelessness Allow the changelessness to rise in your ever-changing experience.

Everything is coming and going.

Everything is arising.

The sense perceptions,

The thoughts,

The bodily sensations,

They are arising.

In that arising is the experiencing by you.

In that experiencing there is dissolving of them in you.

Recognize this in your experience.

The words,

The thoughts,

The sensations,

They arise in you,

Dissolve in you.

Recognize this immediacy,

The intimacy of this simple,

Ordinary phenomena that's happening all the time.

Do not be caught up in the mind processes,

In specific thoughts,

Specific ideas in your mind.

Take a step back and see them all as the same,

Same kind of different.

In this recognition there is no problem.

Nothing and no one is a problem.

Only the idea that it is a problem is the problem,

Which dissolves on mere recognition.

Recognize that every part of your awareness completely infuses this current experience.

Whatever you are experiencing,

You are fully experiencing it.

Whether it is sensory perceptions or thoughts or feelings,

There is no separation between you and your experience.

Your experience completely fills up you and you completely fill up your experience seamlessly.

When you are thinking,

You are fully one with your thinking.

When you are feeling,

You are one with your feeling.

When you are listening,

You are one with your listening.

There is no separation between you and your experience.

Your entire experience is in you.

Your entire experience is you.

Even the separation of me and my experience is purely conceptual.

There is only this one seamless experience without borders.

In between two experiences,

In between two sense perceptions,

In between two thoughts,

In between two feelings,

You are full of yourself.

You,

Awareness,

Is full only of yourself.

And when the experience comes,

You are full of your experience as the experience.

At night,

When you drift into deep sleep,

Your experience goes away.

There are no sensations,

There are no thoughts,

There are no sense perceptions.

That doesn't mean you go away.

We can only remember what we perceive,

Only objective experience.

Lack of memory doesn't mean your absence.

In between two thoughts,

In between two breaths,

In between two perceptions,

There is no memory of it,

But you exist.

You are like the screen,

A TV screen,

Completely filled with the visual,

The sound.

Untouched by any visual,

Any sound.

And when there is no visual or sound,

You are just the screen without anything projected on it.

Try to experience this in and as a first-person experience,

Not as a third-person analogy of the experience.

Experience my words being projected in you,

Disappearing in you and leaving no trace behind.

Recognize that all your experience is ever-changing.

It is a giant permutation combination of thoughts,

Sensory perceptions of sight,

Sounds,

Tastes,

Textures,

Smells and bodily sensations.

All our experience is just a permutation combination of this.

In no particular order.

And everything is perceived by you.

But you are not changing.

The changing happens in you.

You witness it.

You perceive it.

You illuminate it.

And it dissolves in you.

In you,

The changeless.

This cannot be understood by the mind.

As awareness,

You have no objective qualities.

That's why your experience of yourself is always fresh.

Every other experience feels stale,

Is similar to something else.

The sunset is similar to another sunset.

The sound is similar to another sound.

The visual to another visual.

But your experience of yourself is the same.

Is fresh.

Because there is nothing objective about you.

By objective,

I mean you cannot be seen because you are the seer.

You cannot be heard because you are silent.

You cannot be thought of because you don't have a shape and a name.

The name awareness is merely a non-objective word that doesn't have any representation.

Everything else that you experience has objective qualities.

That is why you can distinguish between a thought and another thought or between a thought and a sound.

Between a sound and an image or a smell or taste or touch or a feeling.

The more I'm talking about awareness,

I'm really talking about you.

The more I'm talking about you,

The more I'm really talking about myself.

Whatever is true about me is true about you.

Just like there is no separation,

There is no experiential separation between you and your experience.

There is no experiential separation between you and me.

Yes,

There is separation between everything objective in this universe,

But we have already established that there is nothing objective about you.

There is nothing objective about me.

The only truth we can speak of about ourself is I exist,

I perceive and I cannot not perceive.

Can you try to not perceive something?

Other than I exist,

I perceive,

There is nothing else that we can say about ourself.

There are no borders.

There is no objective quality.

There is no color.

There is no shape.

There is an idea of shape which arises in you,

Which is seen by you.

There is a belief about who you are that arises in you,

That is seen by you.

If you did not get enamored by them,

By your ideas,

You can come back to being yourself without any ideas,

Without any beliefs.

We are all aware of dreams,

What they look like,

What they feel like.

When we are one with the dream,

They are real.

They take us on a journey.

We ride the wave of our dream,

Happy,

Sad,

Nightmare,

Whatever it is.

The moment we wake up,

We recognize that the whole thing was unreal.

The waking up and the dissolving of the dream is simultaneous.

The moment you wake up,

The dream disappears.

Just like that,

When you take a step back,

When you are just yourself,

Unidentified,

Uninvolved in your experience,

That waking up dissolves the experience.

It reveals itself to be dreamlike.

We suffer our experience as long as we are one with it,

Just like in a dream.

If in the dream I were to tell you you are dreaming,

You would not believe me.

In the dream when you are suffering,

If I were to tell you this suffering is unnecessary,

You would not believe me.

But when you wake up,

When you see it as a dream,

When you see it dissolve,

When you see it that the whole thing was a figment of my imagination,

I don't need to convince you anything.

You have tasted the truth.

You have tasted the truth of waking up.

So I don't want to tell you that your suffering in your wakeful dream is unnecessary.

That no matter how much you think you are suffering,

Those thoughts and those feelings are leaving you untouched.

Those tears,

That heaviness is not affecting you.

Instead,

I want to show you as your subjective,

First-person experience that nothing leaves a trace in me.

Nothing has ever left a trace in me.

Even the memories of what events I have experienced is not leaving a trace in me.

The world is doing its thing of evolving.

The body is doing its thing of surviving.

The mind is doing its thing of thinking and recording our experiences.

You are beyond all three.

Yet,

You illuminate all three.

In deep sleep,

Only you exist.

In wakeful dream,

All three exist.

In you.

Because of you.

Yes,

There is a belief that the world goes on even when I am asleep.

That world that goes on behind my back is a conceptual world.

Our world,

As this body,

As this mind,

Is a unique experience of this world that only exists when we experience.

We are present.

For instance,

Right now,

Wherever you are,

Whatever city you are in,

Whatever county,

Whatever street,

Whatever house you are in,

And within the house,

Whatever room you are in,

That is your only experience of this world.

Every other experience of the world,

Although might be happening,

Is not experiential to you.

When we are able to separate the virtual reality that the mind is weaving from the experiential reality that is here,

In this moment,

We will recognize that most of our suffering happens in the virtual reality.

What I mean by virtual reality is this idea-based puzzle that gets built which spans time and space based on our previous experience,

Based on what we have read,

What we have imagined,

What we have heard.

We seem to be allegedly shuttling between here and there,

Past and future,

But experientially we are only here and we are only now.

This is the only access we have to reality and in this access,

There is no separation between you,

Your experience,

Here,

And now.

This is such a unique experience that is so straightforward,

So simple,

So much in plain sight that it often gets missed.

Being lost in the head,

Being lost in your thoughts,

Being lost in the virtual reality completely shuts off this access to reality that we have,

Completely shuts off the access to ourself that we have.

All suffering,

All psychological suffering happens in the virtual reality.

Verify this in your experience right now.

On this tight rope of here,

Now,

Reality,

Thinking is in the moment.

There is no past,

There is no future.

Thoughts happen in the moment.

Perceptions happen in the moment.

Sensations happen in the moment.

The entire unfolding is happening.

But for you to suffer,

You have to think.

You have to conceptualize.

You have to correlate.

You have to imagine.

And more importantly,

You have to believe all that you imagine to be true,

To be real,

More real than this access.

Allow all change to be seen from changelessness.

Allow the body,

Allow the mind to slow down in this understanding so that you can see the change and you can recognize the changelessness that is you.

In this recognition,

There is no need for beliefs.

There is no need for ideas.

There is no need for logic.

There is no need for thinking.

You just need to see it.

And once you see it,

You can't unsee it.

Wake up.

Wake up to this dreamlike experience.

Recognize yourself as this access to reality in this tight rope of a moment.

Find yourself as completely one with your experience and dissolve in this peace of yourself,

Of your own understanding.

Thank you.
