Who are you? Witness whatever is arising. Notice everything appearing and passing, without wrapping your attention around whatever you are experiencing. Instead of getting caught up in what is showing up, practice to remain in the observer’s seat, as pure awareness. Experience yourself as the wide-open space in which everything is simply appearing and passing through. Remember the felt sense of you as conscious awareness and that you can return to this place anytime.

Transcript

Let's begin this meditation with our eyes open.

Notice whatever it is that's in front of you.

Blank wall,

A view through a window.

Just notice what's there.

Take a moment to take it all in.

The colors,

The textures,

The shapes,

The light,

And the shadows.

Soften your gaze and expand your field of vision so that it's cast wide.

Now,

Look at the space between the objects and you.

The air and the space between what you're looking at and you,

Who is looking.

Gradually bring your awareness from the objects in your field of vision toward the space behind your eyes and notice where are you looking from.

Continue to keep your eyes soft and your gaze wide.

Looking out from the infinite space behind your eyes.

Ask yourself who is looking.

From which part of you are you able to notice the objects in front of you as well as the ability to see.

Can you notice both what is being observed and the observer?

Pay attention to your experience from the seat of the observer.

Close your eyes.

Close your eyes.

Notice your ability to see with eyes closed.

If images appear,

Simply allow them to arise and pass.

You might notice sounds.

The sounds that are coming and going.

You may notice at times that your mind wanders away.

Can you notice your thoughts as they appear from the observer place?

From this wide open space,

Notice the thought itself appearing and passing without wrapping your attention around them.

You are witnessing whatever is arising.

Instead of getting caught in what is arising,

Remain as pure awareness.

Notice this place,

The ability to remain in the seat of the witness,

Focusing on what is happening moment to moment.

Everything you can notice.

Everything without clinging to anything and without pushing anything away.

2 You are the wide open space in which everything is simply arising and passing.

What are the qualities of this state of being?

So know that you are practicing.

So that you can experience this reality,

The felt sense of you as pure conscious awareness.

You can return to this place anytime.

Thank you for your practice.

Very well done. I loved starting with vision and moving to observer.
