Building a child's confidence comes in all forms and bedtime is a wonderful time of day to reinforce this. By guiding children to think about a happy part of their day at bedtime, we slowly build a practice of gratitude -- and put happy thoughts in their heads to gently send them off to a place of sweet slumber. [This is a Healthy Equation meditation.]

Hello,

My friend.

It's Miss Mary.

Yes,

It's that time again.

Time for bed.

And,

Oh,

Oh,

Oh,

I'm sleepy.

Shall we make ourselves comfy in our beds?

Fluff your pillow,

Hug your stuffed animal or your blankie or anything special that you sleep with.

And now you can curl up together under your covers.

How do you want to sleep?

You can be laying on your back or maybe on your side.

Anyway is okay.

Make sure you're nice and comfortable.

And now lay still.

We're going to calm our minds.

We'll take a deep breath just like this.

And then we'll breathe out.

Now you do it with me.

Are you ready?

Breathe in.

And now blow it out.

Let's do that again.

Breathe in.

And breathe out.

One last time.

Let's breathe in.

And now breathe out.

Now close your eyes and think about something that made you so happy today.

Try to really see it in your head like a movie in your mind.

Keep your eyes closed and imagine that happy part of your day.

Take your time.

It's okay if you can't think of something or see it right away.

It's okay if you can't see it at all.

All you have to do is think about one happy part of your day.

Now can you feel it too?

How does that happy memory feel?

Keep your eyes closed and just let the lovely feeling wash over you.

Maybe it makes you smile.

Maybe it makes your body feel warm and tingly and nice.

What a wonderful feeling.

Sleep is coming now,

My friend.

Your eyes are heavy.

Your body is relaxed.

Your heart is happy too.

You are so very loved,

My friend.

Ready to visit you and make your slumber ever so pleasant.
