Hello sweet one,
This is Miss Mary.
Well,
You finished another day.
Was it a good one?
A sad one?
Was it a boring day or a fun one?
No matter if the day felt more good or more bad,
It was your day,
And now you have time to make peace with it before you go to sleep.
Take a minute to get comfy.
Fluff your pillow.
Pull up the covers.
Now lie on your back and close your eyes.
Take a really deep breath in with me.
Ready?
And let it out.
And again,
In and out.
Let's do it one more time.
In and out.
Now settle in as I tell you a story.
Night has come.
I know because all around me it is dark.
Looks like a twinkling of the stars and the moon sharing its light as it waxes in the sky.
I walk along the river's edge.
The grass is cool between my toes.
The air gently touches me,
My hair blowing in the breeze,
Almost as if my mom was softly stroking my head.
As I walk,
I hear the water lapping up on the shoreline.
An owl hoots nearby.
Hoo,
Hoo.
He asks of the night.
Is he talking to me,
I wonder?
Hoo,
Hoo.
He asks again.
Here I am,
Wise old owl,
It's me.
Hoo,
Hoo.
He responds.
The owl flutters closer.
Sitting on the branch of a tree,
He looks at me as if he knows me.
When I look back at the wise old owl,
I feel so happy inside.
I know this wise old owl.
He is my friend.
I stop at the river's edge and sit facing the owl.
Hello,
Wise old owl.
Have you come to visit with me a while?
At that moment,
A cloud passes overhead and the night is dark.
When the moon reappears,
I see other animals have gathered round too.
Mr.
Fox,
Froggy and Bun-Bun.
Oh,
Puppy dog,
You came too.
My friends know when the darkness comes,
I will get ready to rest my head and sleep for the night.
They came to be with me.
So I sit,
Listening to the waves in the water,
Feeling the grass tickle my toes and taking in the moon with the wise old owl and my other friends surrounding me,
Sitting nearby.
My body relaxes and a yawn escapes from my mouth.
Hmm.
Feeling safe and content and now very sleepy too.
The troubles from my day just fade away.
The goodness from my day fills up my heart.
I feel warm and safe and so loved.
Curling up,
I finally let my heavy eyelids close.
And just as I drift off to sleep,
The wise old owl kisses my forehead and whispers his good night into my ear.
Hmm.
Hmm.
And so too,
I wish you a good night,
Sweet one.
Sweet dreams.
