Welcome to this intention practice to support productive and aligned meeting dynamics.
I'm Mary Beth Hylandt,
Workplace Culture Consultant and Teacher here on Insight Timer.
Together,
We're going to spend about two minutes for you to get clear on why this meeting matters,
Ground in your values,
And identify what you hope to feel as a result.
When you're rooted in what matters,
You're able to be more present,
Productive,
And purposeful in whatever you take on personally and as a team.
This is a practice you can do on your own or play together at the beginning of a meeting.
Having said that,
I highly recommend that everyone in the meeting gets clear on their intentions to create a shared cultural norm.
Just know that whichever you decide for this moment is the right choice.
Let's begin with closing your eyes or simply gazing down and taking long,
Deep breaths in and out of your nose.
With each inhale,
Feel as though you're bringing peace inside your body.
And with each exhale,
Release any stress or built-up tension leading up to this moment,
Letting go of anything that isn't serving you and bringing in peaceful,
Calm energy.
Now with a clear mind,
Ask yourself,
Why does this meeting matter?
What values does it ignite for me?
What do I intend to feel as a result of being present here?
At the sound of the chime,
Take a deep breath in,
Begin to feel that feeling you want to have,
And hold your breath at the top of your inhale.
Then take a big exhale out when you can no longer hold.
Excellent.
If you did this as a team,
Take a moment to share your intentions with one another or simply the feeling you intend to gain as a result of this meeting.
You may even want to write these down to refer to throughout your time together.
If you did this practice alone,
You can still share your intention with everyone so they can share that possibility with you.
I encourage meeting leaders to add intentions as the first item of their agenda for this very reason.
Then,
Whenever the meeting gets out of alignment with the overarching intention,
Empower each other to recognize it and get back on track.
Simply asking,
Does this align with our intention?
Can be a gentle reminder to stay on track with why you're together.
Just a couple minutes of intention setting can transform the purpose,
Productivity,
And presence for everyone involved in your meeting.
This is Mary Beth Hyland,
Reminding you to set intentions so that you can give yourself and others permission to be human.
