It’s such a common human need, to be useful, to contribute, to help make life better, not only for yourself but for others. Sometimes it feels like it’s hard to access or to have the impact you want. When that yearning is growing within you, what do you do with it? How do you let that yearning flourish, and how do you let it carry you? Listen deeply within to find the way forward.

Bismillah,

Rahman,

Raheem,

In the name of the one most compassionate,

Most merciful,

Most kind.

This is Mark Silver with Heart of Business and welcome to the Monday Remembrance.

I want to encourage you to take a nice gentle breath.

And just notice how you're feeling.

Notice what's true for you.

Notice how much space there is to feel exactly how you're feeling without needing to change anything.

Now sometimes we feel disconnected.

You can feel disconnected,

You can feel sad,

You can feel a little hopeless,

You can feel a little stuck.

And sometimes it's perfect to go into remembrance or prayer.

However,

One of the needs that is really at the heart of being human is the need to contribute,

The need to be useful,

The need to be engaged with life.

And sometimes when you're new in business,

When you're early in your business development,

It can be hard to know how to be useful.

It can be hard to feel like you're really contributing if you don't have any or many clients.

People don't seem to be responding so well.

And the same can be true at the other end of business development.

Where perhaps your business is running well,

But you're working on some initiatives or projects that are more strategic or long term.

And it's hard to know if you're really having an effect.

Things are really engaging the way you want them to.

So just notice if your heart is crying out to be able to contribute,

To be able to feel useful,

To be useful,

To have an impact.

And this doesn't have to be a large impact.

It doesn't have to be something that changes the world in huge ways.

It can be really something quite tender and small,

But still significant in your life or in the life of someone else.

Sometimes we talk ourselves out of this or attempt to,

And I just want to notice how much space there is around this need.

That this is a legitimate need.

My sheikh before he passed,

He was quite fond of saying,

Be like the bees,

Be busy like the bees.

So just notice that yearning right now.

Maybe notice if it's true that it's hard perhaps to get that fulfilled in your business.

Maybe it's not.

Maybe your business is in a place where that does get fulfilled there,

In which case you can celebrate that.

But just notice the legitimacy of the need to be useful.

And how when that need isn't met,

If your heart is thirsty for that,

You can feel really placeless.

You can question a lot of things about yourself and about your business and about your hopes and dreams.

Just making so much space for all of this.

And beginning to remember the Divine,

Beginning to call to the Divine through the open doorway of your heart.

Not trying to change anything,

Not trying to fix anything,

But just noticing.

Is love available even here?

Is the Divine present even here?

Being with the Divine mostly,

Perhaps,

Noticing if it's just validating that it's okay to want to be useful.

If that's not something to be gotten over.

Is love available?

And then maybe asking to be shown,

Where in your business can you feel that?

Where in your business?

How in your business can you get that need met,

Perhaps not in the way that you were imagining?

And just asking to be shown,

Willing to be surprised,

Staying in the remembrance,

Calling the name of the divine,

Feeling the thirst in your heart.

Just asking.

It has not yet,

It has yet to be shown and what is ahead?

I'm letting that,

Allowing that to be a legitimate need and a legitimate project.

In your business.

And also perhaps asking to be shown are there places in your life if your business is still developing or is in a stage where it may be hard to get that feeling in this moment.

It may be hard to get that need met really consistently while you're developing your business at whatever stage you're at.

Noticing if there's else place elsewhere in your life where that need can be met.

Just asking to be shown,

Continuing to call in your heart to the oneness,

To the source of love.

And just asking to be shown.

Yeah.

What do you notice about your heart?

As you acknowledge this need and open up a space for this need to be met in really fulfilling ways.

Sometimes it seems as if the messages from spiritual paths or that prayer in the form of sitting,

Meditation and contemplation in the form of sitting is all you need.

This is not true.

Monks and nuns and spiritual students,

When they work with the teacher are required to be useful.

They help to maintain the temple or maintain the grounds or maintain the household.

Cook food,

Chop firewood and clean.

Care for their teacher or the people around them or the guests or the land or the animals.

This is part of who we are.

This is part of the spiritual practice.

And this can absolutely be fulfilled through the business and sometimes business is in a developmental phase where that's not as accessible,

Whether it's early in development or later in development where something new is being created or transition is happening.

So whether you bake bread or garden,

Clean house or build something or make music or whatever of the myriad things that there are the human body to engage in that can be of service to life.

Just allowing yourself to embrace that as a need and noticing how your heart feels as you make space for that and embrace that and move into that.

The need to be useful,

The need to contribute.

Noticing any authentic gratitude or appreciation,

Anything that you notice during this remembrance and letting yourself express that to the divine.

And then taking a nice gentle breath.

And if you want to stay in remembrance,

Feel free to as long as your heart is there.

And if it's time to move on with your day to seek out engagement with usefulness or something else.

I wish you peace.

Peace.
