Have you ever stopped?
Think about what it means to savor life.
You know,
We hear a lot.
About self-care and doing things that make us happy.
And sometimes.
We get the idea that.
We need to spend money to enjoy ourselves.
We need to maybe go on a vacation.
We need to go out for dinner or to buy something new or plan some special activity.
And while those things can be enjoyable,
They can absolutely be enjoyable,
Savoring life.
Doesn't have to cost us anything.
For me,
Savoring is about slowing down.
And really experiencing the moments that are already part of my life.
Everyday life.
Tuning into the sights,
The sounds,
The sensations.
It's taking the.
.
.
The time to truly enjoy my morning coffee.
Instead of drinking it while I'm coaching or while I'm teaching.
While I'm doing everything else.
It's smelling the coffee before I actually taste it.
It's sitting outside.
And feeling the warmth.
Sunshine on my face.
I love that.
It's going for a walk and noticing the trees.
Listening to the birds,
Hearing the leaves,
Especially in the fall,
You can hear the leaves as you're walking,
And really appreciating the beauty around me.
It's enjoying a good conversation,
You know,
Laughing with someone.
And simply.
Taking a few moments.
To just be there,
Simply be,
To be still.
The thing about savoring is that we have to be present.
We can't fully savor a moment in our minds.
When we're somewhere else.
Worrying about the future.
Or thinking about what happened yesterday.
That's not savoring.
We need to pause long enough.
To actually experience.
What is happening.
In this very moment.
And here is something else that I've come to truly,
Truly appreciate.
We don't always have to wait for something special.
To happen.
Before we allow ourselves to fully enjoy,
To fully savor our life.
We don't have to wait for our next vacation.
We don't have to wait for more money or we don't have to wait until everything in our life is exactly right.
You know,
The way that we want it to be.
Because there are little moments of pleasure.
And joy available to us every single day.
Sometimes we just need to pay attention to it.
That's it.
So here's something I would invite you to try.
Today.
Choose one simple thing.
That you enjoy.
And maybe it is your morning coffee or tea.
Smell it.
Smell your tea before taking that sip.
Maybe swish it around in your mouth.
Before swallowing it.
Maybe it's listening.
To your favorite music.
Like truly listening to it and maybe moving it,
Moving as you're hearing the beats of the song.
Maybe it's spending a few minutes outdoors.
And tuning in to what you can hear outside.
Or maybe it's simply.
Doing nothing.
Right.
Whatever it is.
Give yourself permission to enjoy it without without rushing.
To the next thing.
And notice how it feels.
Notice what you see,
What you hear.
And what you appreciate.
About that.
Very moment.
And instead of immediately thinking about what comes next.
Like we tend to do.
Stay with that feeling.
Just a little longer.
That is savoring.
And of course,
The beautiful thing is that it doesn't take long.
Cost you a cent.
Right?
When we learn to savor those little things.
We begin to recognize.
That there is more enjoyment available in our everyday lives.
That we might realize.
Remember.
You don't have to spend more money.
To truly appreciate life,
To truly enjoy life more.
Sometimes you simply need to slow down.
Pay attention.
And allow yourself.
To appreciate what's already there.
Now get out there and start savoring.
