In this video from the Living the Yoga Sutras series, we explore Yoga Sutra 1.9: Śabda-jñānānupātī vastu-śūnyo vikalpaḥ Imagination is a mental movement based on words and ideas, empty of an actual object. This sutra helps us understand vikalpa - the mind’s ability to create inner worlds through words, labels, stories, and imagined possibilities. A simple phrase like “What if?”, “I am behind,” or “This will go wrong” can quickly become a whole emotional reality. This teaching will help you gently ask: Is this happening now? Or is this imagination moving through the mind? What is actually here? You are warmly invited to join the Living the Yoga Sutras group here on Insight Timer, and to join the live sessions for teaching, Yoga Nidra, poetry, and reflection. See the story. Return to the breath. Rest in what is here.
