Welcome to this meditation on making Zoom for possibility.
This practice is for those moments when you feel limited by fear,
Responsibility,
Self-doubt,
Or the belief that what you want is simply not possible.
You will be guided to gently loosen those familiar assumptions.
Reconnect with what matters to you.
And listen for one realistic step you can take.
You don't need to know the entire path or make any major decisions today.
Simply allow yourself to become quiet.
Curious,
And open to what may be waiting to emerge.
Let your journal rest.
Let your notepad rest.
And make yourself comfortable.
You may close your eyes.
Soften your gaze or keep looking gently around the room.
Feel the surface beneath you.
Take a slow breath in.
And release it.
Once again,
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
Let the thoughts settle.
Let the thoughts settle as you might allow stirred water to become still.
And imagine you are standing beside a river.
You do not need to know where this river begins or where it ends.
Notice its movement.
Some parts are quiet.
Some move more quickly.
There may be bands that you cannot see around.
For a few moments,
Simply stand beside it.
Feel the ground supporting your feet.
You are allowed to pause and look.
And now imagine that you are carrying a small bag.
A small bag.
And inside it are sentences that you have repeated for years.
Sentences like That is not for someone like me.
That isn't enough for them.
I must always be available.
I would look foolish.
There is only one way this can happen.
You do not have to argue with these sentences.
Perhaps some once tried to protect you.
For now.
Take one from the bag.
And hold it in your hands.
Ask Yourself.
Is this the whole truth?
Is this the whole truth?
You may find a real concern inside it.
You may also find an assumption that no longer needs to govern you.
Imagine setting the sentence gently on the riverbank.
You can return to any useful information it contains.
You do not have to carry its fear in the same way.
Notice a path beside the river,
A path beside the river.
There is space for one small step.
Perhaps you would like to learn something.
Perhaps you need an hour that belongs to you.
Perhaps you want to make something imperfect.
Perhaps you need to ask for help.
Perhaps the first step is simply to tell yourself what you wish.
Ask quietly.
What possibility?
Would I like to stop dismissing?
What possibility would I like to stop dismissing?
There's no need for the grand answer.
A word,
An image,
A feeling is enough.
What possibility would I like to stop dismissing?
What is one action within my actual circumstances?
What is one action?
Within my power,
Within my control.
It might be a phone call.
A page of writing,
An honest request,
A little time alone,
A class to investigate,
An artist's day to put in your calendar.
Or a moment of rest before you decide.
Whatever appears.
Let it be small enough to honour what is one action within my actual circumstances.
Imagine for the moment.
That someone who cares about you is standing nearby.
This person does not require you to prove your worth through constant usefulness.
They want you to have a life in which your own interests can breathe.
Hear them see.
Your needs matter too.
You are allowed to enjoy something.
You are allowed to ask for support.
You can take one step without knowing the whole route.
If those words feel difficult to receive,
You do not have to force them.
You can simply notice what they bring up.
Look again at the river.
Look again at the river.
It keeps moving.
And you may choose your peace.
Possibility does not ask you to abandon wisdom or responsibility.
It asks you to remain open enough.
To notice a paw.
And willing enough to take a step that is yours to take.
Silently say,
If you wish.
I can be honest.
About what I want.
I can respect my limits.
And still explode.
I can make them.
For Mike,
The Atom Live.
I am willing to consider.
What might be possible.
And take a fuller breath in.
Let it go.
Feel your feet.
Feel your hands.
Notice the doom around you.
You do not need to leave this meditation with certainty.
Simply let this one question accompany you.
What would change?
If I gave one small possibility a chance.
What would change if I gave one small possibility a chance?
And when you are ready.
If your eyes were closed,
Gently open your eyes.
