The So Hum meditation, passed down from my teacher, is a simple but powerful technique, that uses the breath and the repetition of a mantra to quiet the mind and relax the body. This meditation will help you move beyond the business of the mind, quietening the chatter, to the peace of the present moment.

And take a moment here to find a comfortable position.

Sit bones grounded,

Spine long,

And chin slightly tucked to the chest.

Nose relaxed back and down,

Eyes closed.

Take a moment to drop into an awareness of the breath.

Specifically to the awareness of the breath passing over the back of the throat.

A place where the back of the throat and the roof of the mouth meet.

Spend some time here really dropping into the breath.

Becoming aware of its texture,

Temperature,

And here its subtle inner sound.

As you drop into the breath you will find somewhere deep inside of it a mantra.

A mantra emerges.

So on the inhale,

Hum on the exhale.

This isn't something you need to chant as much as something you will hear as the sound of the actual breath makes.

So as you inhale,

Hum as you exhale.

As you exhale,

Hum as you exhale.

As you exhale,

Hum as you exhale.

As you exhale,

Hum as you exhale.

And as you become established in that mantra its meaning will be revealed to you as I am.

I on the inhale,

Hum on the exhale.

As you exhale,

Hum as you exhale.

As you follow the vibration of I am.

It will draw you into a profound realization that in this moment I exist.

I exist.

Through the breath you open into the wonder of your own existence.

As you exhale,

Hum as you exhale.

As you exhale,

Hum as you exhale.

As you exhale,

Hum as you exhale.

As you exhale,

Hum as you exhale.

As you are drawn into this experience of your own existence that mantra will pull you even deeper into the realm beyond,

To the infinite space beyond existence.

As you touch on this space the breath will fade away.

That gentle pulsation of so hum will remain as a feeling of awareness that is no longer associated with the breath.

And you will merge with the field from which the breath arises,

From which the breath returns.

Into the field of infinite awareness.

As you exhale,

Hum as you exhale.

As you exhale,

Hum as you exhale.

As you exhale,

Hum as you exhale.

Return your awareness to the breath and allow that breath to deepen.

The body being breathed.

Now the sense of deep gratitude.

You can slowly open your eyes.

Namaste.
