This meditation is designed to help you relax into sleep by gently acknowledging any activated parts in you.
Instead of fixing,
Processing or figuring anything out,
You'll be guided to notice any feelings or sensations as just parts of you.
Parts that don't need to disappear for sleep to arrive.
Everything in this practice is optional.
Feel free to drift in and out,
Or to fall asleep at any point.
Get comfortable in whatever position makes it easiest for your body to rest.
If it feels okay,
Let your eyes close,
Or let your gaze soften.
Start to notice that your body is supported by the bed,
The pillow,
The surface beneath you.
There's nothing you need to hold up right now.
Let your attention move gently inward,
Only as much as feels safe and easy.
This is a time for settling,
Not working.
Notice if a part of you is still awake.
Perhaps a part that's uncomfortable,
Worried,
Frustrated.
You might silently say,
Part of me is uncomfortable,
Or part of me is worried.
Name the part of you that is most present.
Acknowledge that this part is not all of you.
It is just a part that you are bringing kind and curious attention to as the rest of you begins to relax.
If it feels soothing,
Place a hand on your body,
Wherever feels most comfortable.
Or you can imagine a gentle warm presence instead.
Perhaps a beloved family member,
Friend,
Or pet.
Send a clear,
Gentle message to this part.
You don't have to go away.
Offer this part a soft acknowledgement.
Perhaps it makes sense that you feel this way.
Or,
You've been caring a lot today.
Find the right words that this part needs to hear.
Notice if there's even a small sense of easing from being understood.
Rather than worrying or problem solving,
Offer this part permission to rest.
You might say,
You don't need to do anything right now.
We can come back to this another time.
If it feels right,
Imagine this part resting beside you,
Like something being gently set down for the night.
Take a few slow,
Gentle breaths and notice the rhythm of your body as it relaxes.
There's nowhere else you need to be.
If thoughts arise,
Let them drift by like quiet clouds,
Without following them.
If you still notice an activated part,
You might gently remind yourself,
This is just part of me.
The rest of me can relax now.
Allow your awareness to soften and fade as your body settles more deeply into the surface beneath you.
As sleep approaches and this meditation comes to a close,
There's nothing more you need to do.
You have full permission to rest.
Any parts of you that are still awake can relax beside you,
While the rest of you drifts off into a deep,
Peaceful sleep.
Dream well,
My friend.
