Hi,
This is a simple breathing meditation where you breathe with your body,
Not against it.
Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down,
Let your eyes close or soften your gaze towards the ground.
Take a moment to notice how you are breathing right now,
Not to change it,
Just to notice.
Is it shallow or deep?
Fast or slow?
Smooth or a little ragged?
However it is,
That's fine,
Just observe.
Sometimes,
We treat the breath like something to control or fix.
We think we should breathe deeper,
Slower,
Perfectly,
But your body has been breathing since before you were born,
It knows what it's doing.
So instead of making the breath happen,
See if you can let it happen,
Like you're watching waves at the beach,
You're not creating them,
Just noticing as they roll in and roll out.
Feel where the breath touches you,
Maybe it's cool air at your nostrils,
Maybe it's your belly rising and falling,
Maybe it's the subtle expansion in your ribs or back.
Your body is breathing in it's own way,
In it's own rhythm,
If your mind wanders that's completely normal,
When you notice just come back,
No need to scold yourself or start over,
Just return like you're picking up a thread you dropped.
Now see if you can release any effort around breathing,
You don't have to make it deeper or hold it longer,
Let your body breathe at whatever pace it wants.
Maybe the next breath is shorter than the last one,
Maybe it catches slightly,
Or it comes in two parts,
That's ok,
You're not here to improve your breathing,
You're here to be with it.
Notice if there's anything holding,
In your jaw,
Your shoulders,
Your stomach,
See if those places can soften,
Even just a little,
Sometimes we brace against our own breath without realising it.
Stay here for a few more moments,
Riding along with whatever your breath is doing,
Quick or languid,
Even or uneven,
Just breathing with your body,
Not against it.
When you're ready,
Let your awareness expand beyond the breath,
Notice sounds around you with the feeling of where you're sitting or lying,
Gently open your eyes and take the same gentleness with you as you continue your day.
Namaste
