The physiological sigh is a simple breathing exercise that can change your state of being, restoring a feeling of calm. It consists of two inhales through your nose, filling your lungs with air and allowing your diaphragm to expand (1 deep inhale and another one that is shorter as the diaphragm won’t expand as much) followed by a deep exhale through your mouth and a sigh of stress relief. Since this is a very short exercise, it is easier to be consistent with it. Plus the physiological benefits of lowering your breathing rate quickly, regulating the CO2 levels that have a positive effect on emotional balance, and activating the parasympathetic nervous system. Creating in this way physiological changes for a calmer state of being.
