Choose a comfortable place to sit.
A cushion,
A chair,
Or the floor are all acceptable options.
Allow your body to be comfortable yet alert.
And we begin our time of deep awareness and presence.
Bring your attention to your breath,
And as you notice the inhale and the exhale,
Imagine that on every exchange of oxygen there is a movement we call peace.
Inhale and feel or imagine your body being filled with peace.
Exhale and feel or imagine peace moving from you outward in every direction.
Inhale peace,
Exhale peace.
Inhale peace and exhale peace.
Peace is a gift that always lies within you.
There is no need to force or push or grasp.
All you need to do is open to the movement of giving and receiving,
Of receiving and giving.
This gift we call peace.
Now bring to mind one person or situation in your life where there is conflict or misunderstanding,
And allow the peace that you are breathing to flow beyond limits to this person or situation.
With every inhale,
Peace arises within you,
And with every exhale,
Peace moves from you to this person or situation.
Move your attention to bring to mind one situation in our world where there is conflict,
Violence,
Or misunderstanding,
And allow the peace that lies limitless within you to flow to this situation.
On each inhale,
The peace within you is stoked,
And on each exhale,
The peace is released and moves swiftly to this situation.
Move your attention one last time to a place within yourself where there is conflict or dis-ease.
This place could be in your mind through inner tension or judgment or fear.
It could be in your heart with emotional turmoil.
It could be in your body with physical discomfort.
Move your gaze to one aspect of yourself where there is tension,
And allow the peace of your own being to swell within you and to penetrate this aspect of yourself,
Flowing freely and with great consolation.
Allow yourself to experience that the peace that truly consoles you always lies within you.
And as we bring this short,
Peace-filled meditation to a close,
Bring all of your focus now to your hands and the palms of your hands.
Very gently,
Press the palms into the legs or the lap or the cushion,
Whatever they touch in this moment,
Press them downward and release.
And press again and hold and release.
And one last time,
Press and hold and release.
This movement helps integrate and ground the depth of our awareness and presence into our bodies so that we may walk forward in the peace we have just touched.
