Choose a comfortable place to sit,
Upon a chair,
A cushion,
Or the floor,
And allow your body to be comfortable,
Yet alert.
When you are ready,
Close your eyes.
With your eyes closed,
Begin to observe your breath without changing or controlling.
Notice,
With ease,
The movement of your breath.
Bring your focus to the point where your breath seems to begin your diaphragm or your chest,
Perhaps lower than your diaphragm,
And watch the movement as the body begins to swell and then release,
Inhaling and exhaling.
If your mind moves away from this moment of observation,
Notice the movement and choose to return to observing your breath.
After the next exhale,
Choose one part of your body where you hold tension or there is pain or dis-ease,
And bring the focus of your breath to this part of your body.
On each inhale,
New oxygen,
New life,
Moves to this part of block or tension,
And on the exhale,
The tension is released.
In the silence,
Allow the focus of the breath upon this part of your body to bring release.
Keep the focus and the breath centered upon this chosen part of the physical body.
Trust that if the observation seems to magnify the dis-ease,
It is only so that it might be released,
And keep the breath moving deeper and deeper into this part of the body.
Moving onward,
Allow yourself to choose one part of the body where you seem to hold joy.
Notice the first part of the body that comes to your mind,
And bring your inward gaze to this place where joy can be found.
Move the breath,
The inhale and the exhale,
To this joyful part of the physical body,
And on the inhale,
Feel the joy swell and build,
And on the exhale,
Like a climax,
Allow the joy to spread through the rest of the body.
Inhaling,
The joy builds,
Growing,
And exhale,
It climaxes and disperses throughout the body.
As the joy extends into every cell,
We slowly bring this meditation to a close.
Move away from observing the breath into full attention to your body as it sits in this room.
Your focus upon the body energizes and grounds you for your day,
And with your focus upon the body,
Decide how you would like to be this day.
What is your intention for yourself this day?
Holding an intention allows us to set into motion all the organizing factors for its fulfillment.
Conscious of your intention,
When you are ready,
Open your eyes,
And before moving,
Observe the room around you.
Once you have observed the room around you and your place within it,
We end this meditation.
