Find a comfortable place to sit or to relax.
A chair,
A cushion,
The floor are all acceptable ways to enter into this meditation.
Allow your body to be comfortable yet alert.
As we begin this time of deep awareness,
Bring all of your attention to your breath.
Observe the gentle and steady rhythm of your breath as it originates from within.
Notice the inhale and the pause and the exhale and the pause.
On each exhale,
Release from your mind and your heart the many distractions that take you away from this moment.
Feel them move from your body on the exhale out into the air around you.
Release thoughts about the past and the future,
Memories,
Responsibilities,
Joys,
Sadnesses.
Surrender all that you hold that you may be truly present during this time of meditation.
Look again deep within yourself and any lingering distractions,
Release them on the exhale.
As the thoughts are released,
They are transmuted and neutralized as they move from the center of your focus or the center of your unconscious out into the air around you.
At any time during our meditation that you find yourself taken away from presence,
You can return to this exhaling release of the distractions within you.
Now imagine in the center of the room where you are sitting that a large circular hole is opening in the floor.
The hole is about three feet or more in diameter.
As you look into the hole,
You see stone steps descending downward deep into the earth,
Filled with trust and perhaps curiosity.
You begin to descend these steps.
Notice how the stone feels underneath your feet.
And as you step downward,
One by one,
The light of the room above you grows dimmer.
Along the walls of this narrow,
Deep passageway,
There are candles set so that every step you take is lit with a warm light of a flame.
Feel the change in the temperature of the air and notice how the light above you grows dimmer.
And as this light dims,
There is a light below you at the end of the staircase that slowly grows brighter.
The descent happens smoothly and quickly,
And soon you reach the bottom of these stairs.
The stairs immediately open to a large circular room with many doors.
The floor is an ancient mosaic of beautifully arranged tile,
And there are candles on the walls in between each door of this circular room.
You stand in the center and you feel that many have come before you and many will come after you.
You are part of a history that is still unfolding and this place where you stand is sacred ground.
All those who seek to know come to this place and now you are here.
Standing in the center of this room,
Place your intention.
Why are you here today?
What brings you to this place deep within the earth?
Deep within the earth and deep into the center of your being.
As you hold your own intention,
Be conscious that those who have come before you and those who travel here after you all hold your intention as well.
Your desire is part of a large sea of desire and you are an important part of this cosmology in this moment.
Now you turn to face one of the doors on the outer rim of this circular room.
Choose the door that attracts you,
That calls your attention,
And once you see this door,
Walk towards it.
Open the door and walk through the threshold.
Open the door and walk over the threshold into a small room that has been prepared just for you.
Everything in the room speaks to you and inspires your spirit.
Notice the room,
The colors,
The furnishings or not,
The lighting,
Objects upon the wall,
The floor.
Take a few moments in silence and notice this room that is especially your own.
One place within this room,
There is an altar upon the wall.
Bring your attention to this altar,
Small or large.
Above the altar upon the wall,
There is another mosaic and it is of an inspirational person or being.
Perhaps it is a goddess,
An angel or a guide.
This person is special in your own life.
Look upon the mosaic representing the presence of this person in your life.
The presence as you gaze upon the mosaic is very strong.
The face,
The countenance,
The posture all seem alive in this moment.
And as you look upon the face,
There is a meeting of eye to eye and heart to heart.
The knowing takes place between you and as this special friend looks into your eyes and heart,
You feel an invitation to surrender.
Choose one block,
One intention,
One need for healing that you would like to surrender into the presence and the heart of this friend.
Truly living has a quality of ease.
Surrender anything that feels hard or difficult and as you surrender,
You feel release and relief.
The more total your surrender,
The more complete the balance and ease are restored within your own self.
Once you have surrendered,
You notice upon the altar there is a small scroll rolled up and tied with a ribbon.
Approach the altar and take the scroll that is meant for you.
As you take the scroll into your hands,
The rightness of the message contained fills you with peace.
You open the scroll by untying the ribbon and rolling the pages and upon the paper is a message your heart longs to hear.
In the silence,
Accept the gift that is within your own hands.
The time has come to leave this sacred place.
Before leaving the room,
Look around to take in all the elements and once you have taken this last glance,
Proceed through the open door,
Returning into the large circular foyer that is lit between each door.
You come back into the place where many before you have come and many after you will arrive and in this moment,
You are here as a part of a larger universe holding the intentions of all who have been and all who will be.
Taking the gift,
The message and the deep connection from this sacred space,
Move towards the steps to begin your ascent.
Feel the stone steps beneath your feet and move with ease,
Fortified by your time.
Notice how the light below you begins to grow dim as you move up the stone staircase and above you the light of the room where you now sit grows brighter.
The ascent happens quickly and not long after you find yourself emerging into the room where you now sit.
Having returned to this physical place,
Feel your body,
Feel the weight of your legs and your feet,
Of your torso,
Your arms,
Your neck and your head as you sit upon the chair or cushion or floor.
Be truly observant of your physical body in this moment.
The awareness of your physical body the awareness of your physical body allows you to integrate the truth and reality we have touched on this journey and when you are ready,
Begin to wiggle your toes,
Watching with your eyes closed,
With an inward gaze,
The movement of your toes.
Feel the movement of the air around them and anything they might be touching as they wiggle back and forth.
You are grounding all of the experience that is non-material into this material part of yourself and each cell will be energized by the meditation you have just experienced.
Allow the toes to rest and when you are ready,
Draw your palms together in front of your heart and open your eyes with Namaste.
Namaste.
Thank you for taking this journey with me into the earth and into the deep parts of our higher selves.
