Greetings fellow travellers,
I'm Joseph Nutman and welcome to this video for Insight Timer about uncertainty,
Which is a subject that is coming up a lot at the moment.
These are uncertain times.
So how do we deal with our place in them?
How do we deal with the tension and the constant flux of events and what may be on the horizon.
This is something I've dealt with a little bit in one of my latest meditations,
Which is called Embracing Uncertainty.
But today I wanted to.
.
.
Had a new idea into the mix.
About how we can think about uncertainty and how we can deal with it.
And we're going to do that today by considering.
.
.
This card in the tarot.
This is the wheel of fortune and this card is really reflects the archetype of change.
Constant movement.
Of life.
Constant turn of the days,
The seasons,
Cause and effect,
Karma.
All of those things,
Chaos,
Creation.
So it kind of tells us that the only certain thing in life is change.
It's inevitable.
But that's not easy for us.
We like certainty in life,
We like the security of it,
So how do we.
.
.
Yet that how do we.
Allow ourselves to be in this paradox of giving ourselves security while being with change and uncertainty.
The way we do that is we look at what else is going on in this card.
It's not just the turning wheel in the middle.
The thing that is also really evident in the corners,
And it's quite apt there in the corners,
Are these figures who are sat reading.
One of my favorite things to do,
And they.
.
.
Represent what is not touched by uncertainty.
It's absolutely there at the corners of the card because these are your pillars.
Now these could be things like your daily habits.
It could be the values that you hold dear.
It could be the exercise of your free will.
And your discernment in making choices.
These are things that are not likely to be affected by uncertainty.
They're going to be the things like your North Star that keep you guided and that keep you stable in life.
While the days move on,
While life turns on.
And while uncertainty is all around us.
So this card is at once saying.
Change is inevitable and it is constant.
But also it's saying you have a choice be able to devote time to your pillars,
The things that are not affected.
By change,
The things that guide you in life.
The things that you hold to be true.
So one way of dealing with uncertainty.
Is to devote time to the pillars in your life.
Those steadfast things like your habits and your belief.
When you feel uncertain about something.
That's what you're going to.
Push your energy towards the things that you can choose.
And the things that enrich your life.
And give your life that meaning,
That purpose,
And that you identify with.
What if.
.
.
The uncertainty you're feeling is because you don't know what those are.
Well,
Let's go back to the card for a second.
And see what happens.
These figures doing.
They all have books.
Those bits represent our inner code.
And how we write the story of our life.
But also they are a good metaphor for searching Seeking.
And researching.
Find what is it that I align myself with.
What is it?
That I want to be devoted to.
And it could be that the constant in your life The thing that keeps you going through the uncertainty is like being an adventurer.
On the road of life.
And that is where you find your meaning.
And that's the pillar you find on that you're devoted to the search of what matters for you.
So you have that as well if you do not have pillars that you are already sure of that give you your life,
That solid foundation for you to grow.
Build upon and rely on in times of uncertainty.
I hope that idea helps.
I'd like to hear your ideas too about how you deal with uncertainty.
So feel free to comment.
Thank you for your time today.
