Today's meditation is a meditation for calming that sense of overwhelm.
Let's start by finding a comfortable seat.
You may be sitting in a chair with your spine upright and your feet on the ground or on a cushion beneath your feet.
You may be sitting on a cushion on the floor with your spine upright or you may be lying on your back.
Find whatever position is comfortable for you and then let's begin by taking three deep breaths.
As you inhale have a sense of filling the lungs and breathing in hope,
Optimism and that new fresh breath.
And as you exhale just give yourself permission to let go of those sensations of overwhelm,
Fear and frustration.
And again breathing in let's fill up the lungs and have a sense of being lighter and less burdened.
And then as you exhale just letting go of releasing those worries,
Those stories,
Those fears.
And then again inhaling,
Filling up those lungs with optimism,
With hope,
With vitality.
And then again on the exhalation just breathing out that sense of feeling small,
Feeling burdened,
Feeling exhausted.
And then as you're here sitting or laying down let's just slowly allow ourself to be in the moment.
Just observing the sensations that you may be feeling as your mind has been racing with all of the things that have been causing that overwhelm for you.
Just bringing a sense of softness and gentleness to the whole body.
And here in this moment as the mind will want to wander off into the future or the past I encourage you to just bring your awareness back to the breath or the moment or the sound of my voice and to that place of allowing and accepting those sensations that you are experiencing in this moment.
And just giving yourself permission to be overwhelmed with all of the things that you have going on in your life at the moment.
It's understandable that you may be feeling burdened,
Restricted.
With all of the things on your to-do list it's absolutely okay to have these feelings.
There is nothing wrong with you for having those feelings.
But these feelings are only feelings and like thoughts feelings come and go.
And we can just be in the moment with the feelings without trying to run from them,
Without being drowned by them,
Without being suffocated by them.
We can just sit with them and allow them and make friends with them and accept that this is what we're feeling in this moment.
Just having a gentle and awareness of the heart and softening around that heart and allow that soft heart to sit beside those fragile feelings of overwhelm and fear and anxiety and worry.
And just let that beautiful gentle loving heart wrap around those feelings of overwhelm.
And keep on stroking those vulnerable feelings of overwhelm with that warm gentle blanket,
That compassionate heart,
That soft kind loving heart.
And if you feel the mind wandering just keep bring it back to the breath,
To the sensations in the body,
To that warm gentle loving heart that is just sitting with her arm around that fragile place in you where the overwhelm resides,
Where the overwhelm wants to hide,
Where the overwhelm wants to make you small.
And the heart just keeps shining her light,
Her warmth,
Her love onto that fragile place inside of you.
Giving you permission to feel however you need to in this moment.
Accepting you for who you are in this moment.
Not needing you to be anything more in this moment.
Loving you unconditionally in this moment.
And then let's slowly start to deepen our breath now.
Bringing our awareness back into the room.
Just gently starting to wriggle your fingers and your toes,
Placing a gentle smile on your lips,
Taking a few deep breaths and then very very gently opening your eyes and bringing yourself back into your day.
