Have you ever had one of those experiences where there's a lot of buildup going into it?
You put so much energy,
So much intention into this experience.
You do all that you can.
It happens.
You feel this huge sense of relief,
But then that little voice starts in your head.
The little judge that starts telling you everything that went wrong and everything you could have done better.
This happened to me when I was being interviewed for a podcast.
Everything was going great.
We're having great feedback going back and forth.
And then the last question I was asked kind of stumped me and I felt like I couldn't get my words out.
Afterward,
I was telling myself I should have done better,
But then reminded myself that it was a learning experience.
There's no winners and losers,
Only winners and learners.
So this experience is going to help prepare me for the next time I find that little voice in my head saying things that may or may not be true.
You can't change the past,
But you can reflect on it and see what wisdom you can pull from it for the future.
And lo and behold,
When I watched the clip of what I said,
It was much,
Much better than what I thought.
It was actually really great.
And that's what we tend to do to ourselves.
The story in our head is often worse than what it ever is in reality.
And it's such a good reminder of that.
We make up so,
So many stories.
We can go into worst case scenarios.
We can go into catastrophizing thinking that everything went wrong when in reality,
Everything went right.
You can often be your own worst critic,
But just like being your own worst critic,
You can also be your biggest champion.
And sometimes you just need to remind yourself of that truth,
Especially when you find yourself judging yourself for every little thing that you do.
These learning experiences,
These moments of clarity can serve as reminders to you when they come up again.
You are the author of your own life and you get to create whatever stories you like and whatever stories you want to tell yourself.
So choose one that's going to serve you.
Come back to this track when you need to remind yourself of this truth.
