Hello,
My name is Jenny Podorozhnaya.
I'm just going to guide you through a little visualization today where we're going to draw upon some images from nature.
I'm going to use those images to take the sharp edge away from things that might feel painful to visit.
So this meditation will work best for a memory that maybe goes all the way up to a 5 out of 10.
If you're going beyond a 5 out of 10 perhaps reach out to somebody for support or talk to a friend.
This meditation today is just going to draw upon the sounds and images of the tide.
So just begin by settling into the chair.
Feel the sense of undoing,
The sense of relaxing as your muscles and your body relinquishes control to the support of the earth underneath you.
Just allow wherever it is that you're set to hold and support you fully.
As you do notice how without needing to think about it,
Without needing to focus or concentrate,
How we welcome the breath towards us and release it easily and naturally without trying to change it or do anything other than welcoming the breath.
Notice how some breaths will be larger or smaller than the others.
And as we release the breath,
Again that will vary in size and rhythm.
Welcoming the breath as it arrives and releasing it as it leaves and allowing its uneven rhythm just to wash over us.
Noticing how the ebb and flow of the breath is much like the ebb and flow of the tides.
How we welcome them as it might work its way up the sand and we release it as it works its way back into the ocean.
Much like the breath,
It's effortless.
We don't need to try if it's not conscious.
We can just observe the welcome and the release of the tides.
And so just drawing upon that memory that we'd like to remove the sharp edges from.
Noticing the experience in our body as we move towards it and just allowing ourself to observe.
Much in the same way we observe the breath as we welcome it and release it.
Not asking it to do or be anything different.
Just notice and then allow the breath to wash over it.
Like the tide does with seaglass.
Gradually,
Slowly,
Over time,
The ebb and flow of the tide takes sharp edges and smooths them until they become beautiful things.
Things that are safe to touch.
Things that we might admire.
And although it might not feel like your memory that you're holding is ready to be beautiful,
Just trust that with every breath it will become smoother,
Gentler,
Safer to hold.
When we admire seaglass,
We hold it in our fingers.
We twist it and we twirl it this way and that.
So it catches the light.
So that we can see the flaws and the imperfections that make it reflect in new and different ways.
I wonder what would happen if you were to hold your memory in your hand and it towards the light.
To allow the light to shine upon it.
To notice how when we view it from a different position,
The way we see it might change entirely.
Each ebb and flow of the breath as we welcome and we release.
Gently,
Gently,
Turning those sharp edges into smooth edges.
We don't need to think about it.
It just happens easily and effortlessly.
Notice how over time the flaws are the things that catch the light.
Places in the glass that were once sharp become smooth.
Each point of impact creating the discrepancies in the glass that catch the eye.
As you hold your memory and you turn it to see it in a new way.
How might what once looked like a flaw become something beautiful when it's in a different context?
As the sharp edges are smoothed by the ebb and flow of the breath.
What skills,
What learnings,
What knowledges have come from this event?
Notice the skills and knowledges that have served you.
Notice the learnings that,
As they've been applied,
Have added to your life.
As we twist and turn the memory,
Whilst the edges become smoother and smoother,
What flaws might catch the light and become beautiful?
What learnings might be treasured?
What skills might we gaze upon?
We inhale.
We exhale.
And every breath smooths the edges and makes things that were sharp safe to hold.
