Listen,
Sometimes burnout is not the end of your energy.
Sometimes it's actually the beginning of you returning to yourself.
A moment where life gives you the chance to start again.
It's never too late.
It's better you have wasted five years of your life doing that thing,
Then you're going to waste another 50 years of doing that same thing that will make you even more unhappy.
What if burnout was not a weakness,
But it was your mind's last attempt to protect you?
What do you think about that?
Most people think that burnout means that people are lazy,
That they are undisciplined,
Or they're just not strong enough to handle certain pressure at work.
But what if burnout is actually your brain trying to say,
I refuse to spend the energy on a life that goes against you.
So what's.
.
.
What if this is actually a good thing?
Because burnout doesn't arrive dramatically,
You know,
It begins very quietly,
Begins very subtly.
So you wake up in the morning and you already feel tired.
You're not just physically tired,
But There is something inside you that doesn't want to live through this day.
Not because you're lazy,
But because something inside you starts to disconnect.
You are disconnecting from the world,
From the life,
From the work that you are doing.
And sometimes the reason can be very obvious,
Right?
You can have just very many tasks at work,
Very many.
You can just many tasks at work.
You can have too many responsibilities,
Too many expectations from leadership,
Management you constantly feel like you are trying to keep up with all the demands like you're running a marathon but it's impossible to fulfill them all and no matter how much you do there is always waiting for you that you know mindset that there is like still a pile of things to do that can be really frustrating and that can lead to a burnout.
But sometimes there is something else.
Sometimes you work incredibly hard but it feels like nobody really notices your work,
You know?
You do a lot of stuff but there is no recognition,
There is no appreciation.
And sometimes the work itself simply stops feeling meaningful.
Something that once excited you now feels very strangely empty and not,
You know.
.
.
Not like even interesting that there's no added value from the work that you are doing in this world.
This can be really,
Really confusing.
If any of these feel familiar,
There's a good chance that you might be experiencing burnout.
Burnout is a state where three things happening at the same time.
First,
An emotional exhaustion.
So you feel drained.
Your entire battery is always empty.
And that spark that used to drive you simply is not there anymore.
So you're like,
Everything is meh,
You know,
The life feels very boring.
Not interesting,
Not colorful,
Flat.
Second,
There is a detachment.
So you start distancing yourself from your work.
You kind of become cynical about it.
You complain or you can joke about it when you talk to other people.
Not because you want to actually do it,
But because,
You know,
Something inside you started to pull away.
So it differentiates you from the work that you're doing.
And third,
And it's a very,
Very important one,
It's a loss of meaning.
You begin feeling like what you're doing doesn't really matter anymore.
So nobody actually needs that.
And it feels like the world will continue being exactly the same even if this work disappeared tomorrow.
But here's something interesting.
Most people assume that burnout happens because someone worked too hard,
But that explanation is incomplete because burnout usually appears where there is mismatch between a person and the system that they're working in.
So yes,
The first factor is of course overload.
So when the amount of work constantly,
Constantly,
Like every day,
Not just on this Monday or this Thursday,
Constantly exceeds the energy that you have,
Then burnout starts to build up.
The second one is the lack of control.
So you're responsible for results,
But you have very little influence over the decisions that affect your work.
So basically,
You carry responsibility without having real power.
So not being boss of yourself and having a boss and sometimes a horrible boss can lead to burnout.
The third factor is the lack of recognition.
So someone puts enormous effort in their work but the effort is.
Barely acknowledged and of course over time that creates just a lot of frustration and emotional exhaustion and how many times oh my god I heard from people like I'm doing so much but nobody notices it.
The fourth factor is the value complex.
This happens when the work that you're doing starts feeling really disconnected from what actually matters to you.
Imagine you're working in a casino when you don't believe in that industry.
Every night you watch people gambling their money away and deep inside you,
You feel very,
Very uncomfortable with the entire system because your actions and your beliefs are moving in basically opposite directions.
This factor is loss of meaning.
The work turns into stream of tasks,
Emails,
Deadlines,
Meetings,
But you no longer see why this all matters,
Why I am doing this.
So when several of these things appear together,
Then the burnout slowly begins to build.
I didn't understand that until that happened to me.
A few years ago,
I went through a period where I had to work 365 days without real vacation,
Like not a single person.
Proper break.
The only one day that I stopped working was when I had a flu and that was one sick leave I took.
That's it,
Because I really could not stand off my bed.
Of course,
There were weekends,
But we had still a lot of work to do also over the weekends,
Like business development.
We were pitching our startup to many investors,
So there was no real vacation the entire year.
At first,
I told myself everything is fine.
I thought I was just simply working really hard.
But toward the end of this year,
Something strange began to happen.
I wasn't just tired.
I started losing the sense of what we were doing in that project and I couldn't see the future of it anymore.
And that feeling was so deeply unsettling.
And what surprised me even more was this,
That before that project,
I worked on another one and I worked incredibly hard and sometimes almost around the clock.
And I was exhausted,
But I was not burned out because back then I understood why I was doing this project.
So I believed in the project and I could see the future.
And that's when I realized something important,
Burnout and exhaustion,
Are not the same thing.
Exhaustion means that your body is tired,
But burnout means that your mind has stopped believing in what you are doing.
A client of mine,
An entrepreneur,
Once described his burnout in a very,
Very simple way.
He basically said,
I thought I was tired,
So I took two weeks off.
On the first day,
It was amazing.
Second day was amazing.
But on the third day,
He said,
I realized something that really scared me.
He said,
I don't want to go back.
Not because the work was hard,
But because suddenly I realized that it simply did not matter anymore and he did not care.
And there was another woman,
A client of mine,
Who once said that she,
The moment,
She explained me the moment when she realized when she was burning out,
When she was burned out already.
She was sitting in a meeting when everyone was discussing the project.
And suddenly she caught herself thinking,
If this project disappeared tomorrow,
I wouldn't really care.
And that would shock her because just a year earlier,
She had been deeply passionate about that work.
There is one signal that many people notice too late,
Something very subtle and people,
But people describe it in almost identical words.
They said,
I stopped dreaming.
Before burnout,
People imagine the future.
They imagine ideas,
Projects,
Plans,
Possibilities.
But at that point they realize something strange they are no longer thinking about the future so if this is happening to you probably you're burning out if you're just trying to get through the week.
And this is why burnout can feel so frightening because it's not just about energy.
It's about the loss of meaning.
And here's a paradox.
Sometimes burnout is not your enemy.
Listen to me.
Sometimes burnout is your mind trying to protect you.
At some point,
Your nervous system simply refuses to keep fueling something that feels wrong to it.
It quietly says,
No,
No,
No,
I will not give you the energy for this anymore.
In that sense,
Burnout actually can be a psychological alarm system,
A signal that something in your life is misaligned.
So when people reach this point,
They often try the wrong solution.
They actually try to push themselves harder.
They try to force themselves to become productive again.
First thing is regaining control.
Even small decisions restore the feeling that you influence your own life.
So think about it,
Where in your life you can take control over your decisions.
Secondly,
Reconnecting with your energy.
Not the things that you're obliged to do,
But the things that make you feel alive.
A conversation,
Creating something,
Doing art,
Being in an environment that feels meaningful to you.
And the third one is asking a very honest question,
Not what other people expect,
Not what looks success from the outside.
Because to me,
Success is an internal fulfillment.
This question is very simple.
What actually matters to me?
Because sometimes burnout is a moment of life that forces us to stop because we have been running for a very,
Very long time.
We were running fast.
We were working hard,
Maybe even being successful from the outside,
You know,
Having all this money and fame,
But deep inside we are broken because we are running in the wrong direction.
And this external thing will not give us inner fulfillment.
Not always.
Matches and that's amazing.
