Most people know how to fall in love,
But almost nobody knows how to stay in love.
And the missing ingredient,
That one thing that decides whether your relationship becomes your safe home or your slow self-destruction,
Is something that almost nobody ever explains.
I'm a psychologist and after years of studying how people love each other,
Here's what I would like you to know.
Ignored.
When you don't feel heard,
Supported,
Or valued,
Everything inside the relationship starts to tilt out of balance.
We talk a lot about work-life balance,
We talk about inner balance,
But what about relationship balance?
So let's talk about it,
You and I,
Right now.
Balance doesn't mean splitting everything 50-50.
No,
It's not.
It's not you take the dishes today,
I take the bins tomorrow.
No,
No,
No.
True relationship balance is emotional balance.
It's built on emotional contribution,
On responsibility,
On self-awareness.
And these things are shaped by something that you did not choose.
It's your attachment style.
This part is something that nobody teaches,
But it's the part that quietly shapes every relationship that you have ever had.
So it means that what you learned about love very early in your life becomes your blueprint.
And the biggest imbalance happens when an anxious partner meets an avoidant partner.
Let me explain.
Anxious partner gives so much emotionally,
Energetically,
Attentively,
But underneath that giving is a fear.
Do you still love me?
Did I do something wrong?
They read the tone,
They analyze timing,
They overthink texts,
And basically they sense the distance instantly.
They're not like too much,
But they are responding to a feeling too little in return of their love.
For them,
Silence hurts more than a conflict ever will.
Avoidant partners are on the other spectrum.
They take more space,
They're more quiet,
They like more distance,
They withdraw instead of talking.
When they're feeling overwhelmed.
And they rely mostly on the other person to hold the emotional tension.
An avoidant attachment is not really coldness.
I will tell you now the biggest truth that people do not understand.
This avoidance is basically a fear of also being abandoned,
Disguised as an independence.
It's a self-protection mechanism.
The anxious partner chases closeness.
The avoidant partner protects the distance.
So one reaches in,
One pulls away.
One searches for safety and the other one searches for oxygen.
This push-pull cycle is what really exhausts people.
But here are the good news.
It's not doomed.
It's actually fixable.
If both people understand what's happening and they're willing to take responsibility.
So for the anxious partner,
Slow down your reactions.
Don't assume that you're being rejected.
You need to communicate your needs very directly.
Otherwise,
There is also a risk of some kind of unfulfilled expectations.
You need to build build your internal safety,
You need to work on yourself so that the partner is not the only source of your calm.
This means you need to learn to regulate your nervous system so it feels safe again.
There are different things you can do.
You can do bodily practices,
Breathing,
Nature,
Yoga,
Etc.
For avoidant partner,
Please do not disappear.
Communicate when you need space.
Stay with these uncomfortable emotions a little longer than usual.
Don't run away.
The most important one,
Share what you're feeling instead of shutting down.
It's funny,
But when anxious partner gives more space to the avoidant,
They will thrive because the avoidant will not feel trapped anymore.
And when the avoidant gives more closeness and feeling of being loved to the anxious,
They will stop fearing that they're not loved anymore.
And it's like a paradox.
But this works only if they collaborate.
Together on this using awareness,
Which is very important to have to understand your patterns.
Next one is very important to have stability,
Managing emotions,
Not running away,
Talking openly.
One time it might not.
Work,
Then you need to do this again.
And of course,
Willingness.
Choosing to show up even when it's hard.
Hey,
It's not gonna be perfect,
But if two adults showing up fully for each other,
Together,
That's strong.
To me,
That's love.
Three rules for real relationship balance.
Rule number one,
Give as much as you got.
Not to keep the score,
But because giving feels natural when both people are contributing.
Rule number two,
Communicate when you cannot give.
Being overwhelmed is so human.
It's normal.
But silence,
This is what's toxic in relationship.
Healthy partners say,
I can't carry this right now,
Or I can carry you a bit,
And I trust that you will carry me later.
Rule number three,
Vulnerability creates connection.
If you have to shrink or hide or filter who you are,
You already lost your balance.
And lastly,
The truth about long distance relationships.
So long distance often creates the illusion of closeness without the reality of shared life.
You miss each other's presence,
But you don't really see the real person.
You don't know their habits,
How they are in stress,
How they're reacting to different life situations.
Responsibilities,
You don't know each other conflict style.
It's a very high emotion but it's very very low information and that's very dangerous.
So yes,
Long distance can work but only if there is a plan to end the distance.
Remember,
You build a home with a partner and not the idea of who they might be.
A real relationship is a home built by two equals.
You build a life with someone,
Not for someone.
