On this evening,
As the earth slowly turns from the sun,
As the shadow of night moves inexorably nearer,
Let us let the busyness of the day fall behind,
Here at the threshold of evening.
Behind us,
As we look back,
Lies the busyness of the day,
The office,
The workplace,
The cars and all the traffic,
The frantic co-workers in the parking lots filled with cars.
All of that,
In all its bright busyness,
Let us look upon it fondly as we stand at the threshold of evening.
This threshold,
A doorframe in space between the busy world behind us and a green forest before us,
An open threshold at our feet,
Worn smooth by countless crossings.
Let us step across,
And as we do,
Let us breathe deeply and easily,
And exhale and release,
A release of all the burdens of our day,
The weights upon us,
The responsibilities and obligations,
The drives and desires,
The petty frustrations and the minor victories.
Release them with a breath,
Let them rest in their own world.
As we cross the threshold to evening,
There is only space now,
Space in which time has been suffused,
A place to inhabit,
Not to pass through in a rush to be somewhere else.
Having crossed the threshold into evening,
We leave behind the busyness of the day,
Breathe in this fresh new air as the sunlight filters through the flashing overstory above us.
Here,
On this side of the threshold of evening,
Breathe softly now and love the one you are,
Bring love to others,
That is what you live for.
Peace be with you,
And I wish you a beautiful evening.
